Re: S-10 heads
They will fit, but them are carb heads and are worse then your current MPFI heads. Get some from a RWD fuel injected 2.8/3.1/3.4

They will fit but you will loose power from the smaller ports in the heads. Get some off a RWD Camaro from 87-93.

To expand just a bit;

S-10, 87 and up 2.8/3.1
Isuzu rodeo 90 and up, 3.1

Hope this helps...

Re: S-10 heads
I wouldn't run 86 heads, but that's just me. I don't trust any 86 2.8 parts unless I can verify that it is the 2nd design assembly.
I'm sure they're fine and my old GM book just said to use "fuel injection" 60 degree heads, not carbureted, so I guess it's fine...

Re: S-10 heads
86.5 is the cut off for the "HO" heads, so if you go with anything after 87...
Also, someone might have used the small port/valve heads on a latter model engine, so be careful pulling from a JY. I just saw a thread from someone who has a carbed 85 engine in his 91 f-bod.

I wasn't sure the cutoff on that one. I know I have seen 1985 fuel injection 2.8s but I don't want anything from them either!

Re: S-10 heads
All of my parts listings show a different crank and bearings for 87 and up engines. Almost every year before 87 uses something different all the way back to 1980.
After working at the parts store and seeing what came in, I don't trust any 2.8 built before 1987...

Re: S-10 heads
All I can say is that the crank kits are different, and the block part numbers are different.
There must be SOMETHING different...
I used to make guys special deals when they would come in for a reman engine and only sell them 87 and up engines because the 86 and older engines ALWAYS came back with some sort of crank problem!! I can't explain why, but the 87 and newer 60 degree engines never had a problem...

I'm just saying that I have an 86 2.8 MPFI, 89 MPFI and they appear identical
I just thought you were getting your years mixed up when they introduced fuel injection

Re: S-10 heads
I think all of the external stuff is the same for MPFI, 85-89. As far as I know only the block and crank are different. I'm not 100% sure about the heads and a few others have chimed in about that.
My old GM manual only specified that if you were running in a "stock" class for racing, you should always use the camshaft and heads from an FI engine.

Re: S-10 heads
You can't use a latter crank in an earlier block, many people sait the webbing isn't strong enough (and it costs too much) to align bore the block to accept larger journals.

Re: S-10 heads
Any year v6 fiero will have the correct heads ('85-'88). '85-'86 a-bodies will also have them IF they are mpfi. BTW, '86 mpfi blocks will always have the large-journal cranks.
