i was reading up on a couple of threads that talk about headers for the 2.8 fitting the 3.1.but they state that you have top remove the air pump to use them.where and what is the air pump????

Quick description if looking at the engine on the bottom left there is the smog pump up above mounted on the passenger wheel wel is the air pump thats black and just smaller than a soda can size that has hoses running to and from it this is what gets disconnected when headers are inplace on the 3.1L. I passed emmisions with this off.

I think your talking about the charcoal canister.The smog pump on a 3.1 is located just below the alternator. It has a pipe coming out of it that plumbs into the passenger exhaust manifold.
