Re: 700r4/4l60 Questions

You have a 60* motor. Most trannys that you will find are for 90* motors. They may make a conversion plate... but you should find a 60* 700R4 tranny...

ok,
Every tranny place I contacted about a rebuilt tranny said it would bolt up no problem. So I assume they have the cores.

Re: 700r4/4l60 Questions

There are alot old 60* 700R4s around. S10s and F-bodies are the best sources for them. Its just most that you find in the performance rebuilt market is V8/90* bellhousing versions.

Re: 700r4/4l60 Questions

Bummer. I know how tough it can be to track down 60* transmissions. I decided to go v8 with my Firebird, just cause I'm having such a hard time finding a 60* T5.

Re: 700r4/4l60 Questions

Looks like a decent price by all means. Most builders are almost twice that price for a 700r4 with thoise same basic upgrades. The internals are all just "hand selected used parts" when it comes to the drum, sungear, etc but most of the other companies are also until you go aftermarket and the price goes even higher.

for the power these 60*V6's put out, that tranny sould last you a long time as long as it is not abused with geardrops and such. Good find.

Also, You are correct, you do want the tranny with the flat top housing.
THis is the only pic I have of my tranny out of my V6 Camaro and you can NOT see the top of the housing. But trust me it is flat unlike the V8 ones. I have vehiicle with a built V8 trans also. THis tranny you are looking at is valued retail at about 2800.00 just for the trans. Thans a custom 9" convertor and the V6 case trans has an aftermarket V8 imput shaft. There is nothing factory in it other than a NEW factory V8 drum. Everything else is custom in it.Jimmy Gilante who at one time owned Darrel Young Racing Transmissions was a good friend and built this special for my V6. t does not have a so called shift kit- THe entire valve body is redrilled and blueprinted.

Thats also a Carbon fiber driveshaft in the picture alsong with the factory V6 steel shaft.

Re: 700r4/4l60 Questions

Hey just trying help... I know that all the guys on EBAY say they know what there talking... MUST

Anyway, if you live on or near Long Island, give Select tranny (631) 501-1245 a call before you buy from EBAY and pay for shipping... they build racing trannys and HE KNOWS WHAT HE'S TALKING ABOUT...

Re: 700r4/4l60 Questions

To answer the question, the 60* (2.8,3.1) 700R4 has a flat top/bellhousing, and the 90*(SBC,4.3) has the triangled top. Hope this helps and you find a good tranny.
