Re: Just got winter beater out

Thanks all!

I was thinking, If I could get a good amount for the White car, i could do an Ls1/t56 swap with black Z06 wheels on the Camaro, and just buy like a dodge spirt for winter!

I guess if it gets proper oil changes, and work it would last a long time. But how many v6 birds and maro's are left that haven't been beaten on?

Re: Just got winter beater out

We have a little over 206,000 showing on the odometer of my wife's '91 RS, before the odometer/speedo started working intermittently. Has some sort of a mid level rapping sound but that's been there for at least 40,000. Oil pressure is good and it doesn't burn any either.

205k miles is very nice. I got mine with 170k, and with all the down time, put maybe 10k miles on her in 3 years.

Re: Just got winter beater out

I bought the 87 with almost 195K on the clock. At 195K, I had to drop in a 3.1 to replace the blown 2.8.
Put the T-5 in when the car had 213K on her, and put her up for storage last November. Got her out of storage this past May with 219K and will have 230K by the end of this month.
Hopefully I won't have to deal with the MT/non-ABS this winter when I buy back my Grand Prix that I sold in April. If I can't get the car back, well, then, it will be another learning experience for me, but nothing I can't handle. You learn to drive an F-body pretty well in a nice snowstorm and 2 ice storms (Grand Prix was up for repairs for the last decent snowstorm and ice storm I got stuck driving the F-body in). And, this time, I have snow tires on the car, rather then the junk tires I got rid of in July.

BTW, for MDv6man, if I were you, I'd go to a j/y and find a set of heads from an 85-up F-body. They have bigger ports and valves than the older ones do, and they will probably bolt right up to your existing intake. If you can't find a set, I know of a yard that has at least 2 sets without intakes.

I'm well aware of the 85 and up upgrdes the 2.8 received...bigger rod and mains, larger valves, better cam. I still have the original 83 v6 in my basement, along with the original motor from my 1986 Camaro. Haven't qite decided what I'm going to do yet. Was thinking of fixing the head with the older head to get it fixed up to sell. when the time comes to sell, I'd the offer to build a spare motor using the original block but machine it to accept the better crank. That motor would get the heads from the 86 motor and a better cam

Re: Just got winter beater out

I was thinking :

If that 3.1 Kicks the can, Ill have a spare 700r4 and 305 LB9 motor both in perfect shape for running (out of my formy that sgetting an l98)

I might put the 305 and 700r4 in the camaro and put smaller injectors and kind of tune it more emission/gas milage

Use it for winter still, but sure itll be running a long time for the 305/700r4

I couldn't help but mention the fact that your "winter beater" is about ten times nicer than my Camaro.
