i good story for all

so here i am at work and this guy i work with has a late 90's VW golf. swears up and down his car would beat my firebird in a flat out race. So i asked him if he wanted to do it and of course he says "yeah but i need to change some stuff first." this is what he told me he was going to change. the camshaft. im guessing maybe add 15 or 20 hp for that. and he was going to "add a gear." ??? that one confused me so i asked what he ment and he couldnt explain himself. i told him he was going to need a lot more then a cam and a gear added somewhere to his car to beat a firebird unless its a 4 cycl bird. that and a lot of stickers. i mean we all know stickers make those ricers go fast. anyway i got a kick out of it. if any of you can think of what he ment when he said adding a gear let me know. i know you cant add a gear to a tranny. unless he ment something with his diff? but cant add a gear there and its a fwd car? i dunno. im gonna race him sometime though with three friends in my car and see what happens. already took a 2003 cavalier and a kept up with a mitsubishi lancer

Sounds like he's blowing smoke up your ****. Maybe he was reffering to the cam sprocket?? Or maybe he's gonna glue a gear to the hood to give it some extra power lol.

Yep, probably cam gear, or a gear in the works...
If he couldn't explain himself then he has no idea what he's talking about and just repeating something he heard once or twice.

I love these guys that say "My car is faster than yours" And then when you actually straight up challenge them, there's always something that needs to be changed, or improved to do it, well then your car won't be mine then will it?

his VW might be AWD. so he might have the first 10 feet. i have no idea who he's trying to fool though. your firebird wont think twice about blowing that things doors off.

maybe hes planning on the race only being 10 feet? i dunno but i gotta job on my hands tomorrow. gotta replace the valve cover gaskets. gonna clean out the intake plenum too. took the top manifold off the other day and holy hell what a crap load of carbon. brake cleaner should work for that right?

Re: i good story for all

Dude, I know what you mean, I took my manifold off and I found a gunky mess, with a hard crusty full blown clog in my EGR port on my No. 6 cyl. and almost fully clogged hydraulic lifter on the same cyl. The whole mess seemed pretty gritty too, so that might be some of the deposits that helped to get my rod bearing spun. I heard that Penzoil is Parafin wax based, or has it in it or something, either way, machinists tell me that it tends to form a wax on critical engine components. I will never use/recommend penzoil again.

Re: i good story for all

Use carburetor cleaner. Melts gunky buildup like butter.
