Cooling problems...

I have a slight problem... My cooling fan wont turn on at all, The temp has reached as high as 250 and it still wont come on...I checked the fan, that works, checked the relay that works too...I was gonna check the temp switch on the radiator only to find...I didnt have one in there...Why dont I just buy one? I cant seem to find the wires that go to it, is the sqwitch on the same location as a V8 or is it a different switch? I also looked everywhere in the manual could not find it... Thanks for the help in advance!

Re: Cooling problems...

I don't believe the V6 has a fan switch, at least the 3.1 V6 doesn't. The fan is totally controlled by the ECM which senses engine temperature with the sender mounted on the intake next to the thermostat. Normally though, when that goes bad, the engine runs like crap. Where are you getting your temperature reading from? The stock gauges on these cars can be notoriously off - you could possibly have a bad temp sender to your gauge on the driver side cylinder head. Just some ideas, hope you figure it out.

I'd be changing the T-stat, and the temp sending unit.

Al beat me to it..

Re: Cooling problems...

I just look at the gauges...I would think that even if it is off, it is probably still running hot, because it says around 250... but i changed the coolant temp sensor next to the thermostat already, I will buy the other temp sensor and thermostat and see what happens... should i get a 170 thermostat or just the stock one which I think is like 190 or something?

Re: Cooling problems...

Factory setting for the ECM to tun on the fan is in the neighborhood of 230*, so your gauge being off isn't very far fetched. I'd look for some way to get a probe into the coolant to see what the temperature is really is. Even one of those infrared guns (for lack of a better term) some garages use could get you close.

Re: Cooling problems...

Damn... why so high? Emissions? Would putting a cooler thermostat help engage the fan sooner? And Im curious, I saw another sensor thing next to the thermostat housing there was another sensor in between the temp sensor and the thermostat housing...What would that be? Would it have anything to do with it?
