starting problem battery or starter?

hey folks a 91RS here.(3.1)

I just got in a new starter caz my car wasn't starting.
What it did was it gave me a click noise just once and never started.

they said its the starter so I got a new starter in.

my car starts now but I still occasionally get a 'click' and no start.

my battery's almost 4years old but does bad battery cause this symptoms? caz I thought they dont make any noise if it was the battery..
alternator is fairly new btw.

thx in advance.

Re: starting problem battery or starter?

its probably your battery. its got enough juice to make the solinoid click once but not enough to turn the engine over. my cavalier did that to me. got a new battery now it starts practically on the first revolution.

Re: starting problem battery or starter?

my camaro use to do this also and i changed the starter and battery to no avail. it turned out to be that there was something wrong with my key or security system so i installed a simple push start and it fixed the issue.took me 3 years to figure it out lol

Re: starting problem battery or starter?

thanks for the inputs guys.

I jus wanted to make sure if a bad battery causes this before I even buy a battery,
now that I know Im just gonna buy a new battery and see how it goes.

even if its something else my battery's 4yrs old anyways.. hopefully its the main source of this problem tho.

holdtrue do u have VATS on ur car and u bypassed it? is that what u did?
