mhhhm camaro project in he works...

i have had my camaro for 4 years now and i have finally had enough money to fix up most of the problems its had and started to give it a little pull..i am eventually going to turbo it once i finish my prelude project but this is only the start.....

i have a nasty exhaust leak so i decided to buy some pacesetter hedders and magnaflow exhaust to fix it up....

a little wrap to keep the under hood temps down

idk what you want to call this intake but its one of the best for the v6 in my opinion

That paint on the headers will burn off quick. And Ive been told, by old gear heads, to stay away from heat wrap on steel headers...It causes them to rust quicker.

yeah ive never found the need for heat wrap, if under hood temps are that bad you need to just increase airflow, different hoods ect

The heat wrap absorbs water, it's nice looking, but you're better off just leaving it in the package...

That paint will burn off as soon as you first start the car up What I would do is strip that paint off and get some high temp ceramic paint. Then rap the headers and paint the wrap in the high temp ceramic paint to keep the water off the headers. I wish I did that when I put mine in. Where did you get that header wrap? Its pretty expensive at any of the stores I go to.

Re: mhhhm camaro project in he works...

im stripping the paint off today and wrapping them but i have special header wrap paint which seals the header wrap so no water gets in its a silicone paint designed for header wrap.i got my header wrap for 80$ with the paint from summit racing.i have gotten similar feedback from header wrap on my prelude when i wraped the headers a couple months ago if anything the sealed header wrap makes it last longer.

Are you repainting the headers after you strip them before the wrap is on?

nope im not repainting them.i have tried numerous "high temp paints"and they all just burn off after you turn on the engine for a few min.i think im going to eliminate the smog pump to reduce engine clutter.

With the high temp paints you've tried, you did bake them, right?

i have attempted to bake the paint to no avail,i usually follow direction very well i like doing things right the first time.in my opinion i think getting them ceramic coated is the best idea before trying to paint them unless short on money.i prefer header wrap over a plain header if necessary instead of leaving it with nothing at all.
