Re: I need your help

I'd worry about the main caps before I started worrying about the block itself. Not sure how much it can handle, noone's really pushed one far enough to see. Many people ask how much power they can make and how to do it. My suggestion is do some research (60degreev6.com is a good starting place) and figure out how you want to do it. Why would you buy one of those 'kits' when you could do it yourself with salvaged parts?

Re: I need your help

3.4 in a racing situation making 340hp N/A has split the block at the valley after many races - that's about the worst i have heard of. (3.4 and 2.8 blocks are almost identical with the exception of bore and reluctor sensor).

Over 400 hp has been done in boosted motors, but not any I have seen in real racing situations. they seem to be holding up fine.

Re: I need your help

If you want to spend that kind of money, there are much better options for making power.

You can pick up a 3.4 engine from a 1993-1995 f-body and use 3400/3500 heads depending on piston choice.

Where are you located?

I want my car for Daily Driving. I hope to leave the car at around 225-275,or more Horspower. As soon as I reach that point, then I'll stop modifying it.

Re: I need your help

Those parts will help but don't waste your money on the computer chip stuff. If you are wanting to make that kind of power NA then you are going to have to go to aluminum heads off a FWD car, if going boosted them you can use the iron heads. The max for iron heads is around 200hp which is what I am shooting for.

I was wanting to boost, but don't know any websites that sells Turbo or Supercharger. What is a FWD car? Why shouldn't I waste money on Computer chip stuff?

Re: I need your help

The computer stuff really doesn't do much for performance. Besides if you go with boost you will have to do alot more to the computer than a chip. FWD is front wheels drive. All of the F-bodies and S-10s got the iron heads which are very restrictive but the aluminum FWD heads are a much better design than the irons and are capable of making much more power, especailly NA. Look at the stickey at the top for details on turbos and the FWD topend.

Yep. Did you not get an answer quick enough?

By stroking the 2.8 to 3.1, everything else stock and in perfect condition, you are going to gain about 5-10hp.

Re: I need your help

It's always fun watching the learning curve in action.
Day 1, Wow my new V6 Camaro is AWESOME!!!
Day 2, Aww man, my new V6 Camaro is SLOW!
Day 3, Turbochargers, and 3.4L swaps, and hybrids, Oh my!!!
Day 4, You mean I'll still be slow and I'll be broke? Bummer.

I just don't understand why anyone bothers to entertain these threads by new members with less then 10 posts. There should be a sticky explaining that it's not exactly easy to get a bunch of free power out of these cars. Sure it's ok to get excited about a car, but there's no reason to lead newbs along, when what they're seeking is obviously beyond their capabilities.

sorry couldnt resist, anyways hes sorta right, you have to decide wether you want power or fuel economy, if you go for fuel economy you can make these motors alot more fun, fun dosnt always mean fast!!!! making an engine alot more free reving, and sounding meatier adds to the driving experience, dosnt have to have a bucket of horses!
if you really want power v8's the only sensible choice for reliable strong performance.

not really, the mustangs arnt as fast as people want to believe, and need a lot of work to get them going properly. a v8 firebird/TA/formula/iroc would be much faster and cheaper to get the horses you want
AND LOOK MUCH NICER !!!!!!
mustangs to me always look like hot hatches, the cambird is a proper coupe.

Re: I need your help

I like to respond to the newbies because I want to get people's minds moving. They need direction anyway. Not specific direction, just enough to get them away from the "easy power" junk. And if someone prompts my oppinion they'll get it.

cool, hope you find what your after.

speaking to newbies is very important to give them the info on a car they no nothing about, were always honest and let people know that getting hp out of our v6's is hard work. its up to them if they want to do it or not.
you have to have respect that they must of bought the car on looks alone !!!!!!! because if they saw the performance figures on paper they'd proberly never give it a look. someone who just looks at figures and buys cars for speed alone dont always respect the cars they have, buying cars for the car itself - looks/feel shows some heart ;-)
