well everyone is going to tell you to use the search because this question gets asked thirteen times a week but since the search is a joke a little persiverience is needed to get where your going. first thing to is the tune up. from there your cars breathing (intake/exhaust) check the stickyed forums for the after market parts list. as far as expences go the cheapest thing to is get some of those type R stickers that make your car go faster. there is a DIY cold air intake but the camaros stock intake is pretty good.

The Camaro stock intake is the best there is for these motors. Its a true CAI and it can supply more air to the motor than these motors can suck up. Get some Pacesetter headers, highflow cat, and some sort of catback. The most popular are Flowmaster or Dynomax mufflers but I like my Magnaflow. After that you can throw in a cam, do a 3.4 swap, and port out your intakes. You can throw in 3.4 DOHC piston (if you go 3.4 swap) to give you about 10:1 compression. That's about all you can do to these motors and make 200 hp out of the crappy ironheads and intakes. The aluminum heads will open a whole new world of power for these motors.

If you want power and decent fuel mileage, a 3.8 powered 4th gen would be optimum. 2.8s and 3.1s just dont make good power. They do handle very nicely though. What kind of mileage do you get with yours? Ive heard the 5 speeds arent that bad. You can expect 25-27 at the most out of a 2.8
