V8 to V6

Has anyone gone from a V8 to a V6 due to the gas prices constantly increasing? My V8 is trashed and I need to make some engine considerations.

There's a guy who frequents with a V6 in his previously V8 T/A, I don't remember his name though.

2 people off the top of my head have done v8 to v6 swap, like the buick 3.8L turbo. I plan to do the same swap.

Be sure to do the '165 ecm swap if you get a v6. Stock programming isn't great.

Re: V8 to V6

I'm considering the 3.4 w/ a 5 sp. I'll was thinking of trying to find a 2.8 or 3.1 for the ECM. I'd love to use the 350 TPI, but gas prices are horrible. That is my only drawback w/ the V8. What would you guys do?

Re: V8 to V6

Gas price too high? Is 32 CZK - which is about 2 USD per LITER too much?

No it is not. And I've just bought a 350 TPI as my only car.

Do not ruin your car and put some smallblock in it.

You can always make a propane gas conversion, don't you? I do not know how on price is that in the US but in europe running on LPG (liquid propane gas) means about -10% performance, +10% fuel consumption and finally -50% price per liter.

no V6 please...

Thanks, I needed someone to convince me. Gas here is $3.10 per gallon for regular and super is somewhere around $3.50 per gallon.

Re: V8 to V6

My 350TPI gets similar mpg as my old 3.4.

If you do the swap, Id suggest a 3.1/7730 system. But mostly, Id look to see if its compatible with your 2 year older dash harness(electric vss, etc).

Re: V8 to V6

I'll more than likely stick with the 350 TPI idea. I have a block, just need a set of L98 heads. I'm still gathering 5 speed parts, too.

If you want to stay small-block, LT1.

Re: V8 to V6

LS2 will get more mileage than a 3.4 (~24mpg) and it will make about 400bhp stock, not as easy as a, LT1 (~21mpg, ~300bhp)

To swap from a v8 to a 60* will require a transmission change, the older 3.8's have a 90* bell housing pattern, but Series II will have the small corperate (metric) pattern.

Re: V8 to V6

The Turbo 3.8 won't increase your gas mileage...your right foot will become permanently heavier...
