LIM gasket replacement, any inside tracks?

Ok guy's I pulled off the new gaskets that I put on my LIM and although there didn'nt appear to be anything damaged on them they did stick to the inlet ports and appeared to be damp. (See my fitted engine (and new freeze plugs!) but won't run) post.

The (new) gaskets I put on were at least 3-4 years old prior to fitting and had been stored in a hot/cold loft, so I think they may have been past their best anyway. The RTV that came with the set was solid when I tried to use it!!

Well I've got new ones coming and I want to make sure these do not leak again so I can get my Bird running sweet. Does anyone know of a good way to fit these, or know something the manual does'nt? I fitted the last ones just how they instruct you in the Haynes manual with the RTV and everything but the engine had a dreadfull air leak and ran like a dog!

Cheers guy's, all the best. Speed.

Don't use RTV! I didn't use any on mines and just torqued to specs. Never had a problem since and I swapped engines 2 yrs ago.

Yeah, no RTV on those. Just make sure you torque it down. As as has been mentioned before, make sure you put RTV on the block-to-LIM areas at front and back and make sure you get the very corners of it(I overlapped onto the head just a bit to be certain). That's where any vacuum leak would be is the block-to-LIM, since there's no gasket for it.

Thanks guy's will do that. Can't work out what went wrong last time though I followed the manual carefully. Anyway, got my new air pump this afternoon from RockAuto only ordered it Monday and it's here already! Just waiting for the gaskets now.

Speed.
