oil leak

Hi I have an 89 camaro rs 2.8l and I had my clutch replaced and ever since I got the car back I have had an oil leak and I cannot figure out where it is coming from. I tightened my oil pan (which was a little loose) but the car still leaks. I took the car back 2 the shop thinking it was my tranny that was leaking and the shop checked it and it wasn't the tranny. The guy told me that he thinks its the lower intake manifold but when I stick my hand back there 2 feel around it is dry and I feel no oil, even when I reach way down. Also the car only leaks while its on on after being drove. Any one have any ideas? Thanx

Re: oil leak

Did they replace your rear main seal while they were there? Since they had to remove the flywheel to replace it anyway, they should have replaced the rear main at the same time.

It's very common for them to leak right after the pilot bushing has been replaced. I don't know why, since the crank normally moves around in the seal, but doing a clutch without a rear main almost always makes a marginal seal leak.

Re: oil leak

I did not have the leak before the clutch replacement and I did have the shop change the rear main seal. So I don't think its that. The leak drips a lot but when I check my engine oil I am not really losing that much oil. Any other ideas? Thanx 4 your help

Re: oil leak

I just bought a '91 Firebird V6 3.1 (automatic) that has this exact problem and I'd be interested in getting any clues, also. I haven't had time to jack it up and look for the leak. It appears to be dripping from the pan and my first thought was the pan gasket but now I'm not so sure. I read that a leaky intake manifold will give your oil a milk chocolate appearance but I'm not seeing that.

Re: oil leak

Suggest checking the flywheel - if it is the rear-main, it will have cast off.

The 2.8L has an o-ring on the distributor. Mine just started leaking and the way it leaked down the bell housing and spread to the oil pan, made me think that it was the rear-main. The o-ring on the distributor costs 50 cents and only takes a few minutes to replace.
