3.1 block, 2.8 parts

Alright so my 2.8 went on me about a month ago, i was told the 3.1 is basically the same engine and whatnot. So my question is, with a 3.1 block and like the intake manifold, fuel rail, and such on that 3.1 bloc, am I gonna have any problems? I already got the engine put in but cant start it till I get a new engine. Will I have any problems with the computer or anything? Thanks.

Nope. It's all the same. The 3.1 lacks a cold start injector, so your 2.8 wiring harness will have a plug that goes to nothing. I'm pretty sure that's about it though.

I'm kinda lost here. You say you have the new motor in. But cant start it tell you have a new motor.......... which you say is already in?

The throttle body mounts to the upper 1/3 intake differently between the 2.8 and the 3.1. The 3.1 also has an extra vac line port, which can be easly capped.

Best bet is to use your 2.8 upper 1/3. Middle 1/3 section wont matter. Then match your lower 1/3 to whatever fuel rail you use.

Ah man hadn't realized that. Got the motor in , can't start till I get fresh oil in it and a new battery (someone stole my other one). So yeah, I did use the 3.1's bottom half of the intake, then used my 2.8 top half of the intake. Used the 2.8 fuel rail so the CSI was plugged off, the 2.8 oil pressure switch won't work with the 3.1's.

Re: 3.1 block, 2.8 parts

Well got everything all hooked up, ended up using the 3.1 rail/injectors because of the 2.8's fuel rail CSI was leaking fuel. But I got one problem, engine turns over fine, but no start, got the firing order correct. I do have those 3 relays on the driver side firewall unplugged, would this make a difference? Do those 3.1 injectors need a certain PSI?

What do you mean its a cycle? like a "click click click" sound? or do you mean it does it once every time you hit the key? make sure you have enough voltage left in the battery, from what youre describing, thats what it sounds like.

Re: 3.1 block, 2.8 parts

yeah i was having problems with the battery. the guy i got the car from actually got it running, came over and had it started in seconds. it was the firing order, instead of firing on cylinder #1, it was firing on cylinder #2. another 3rd gen brought back to life.
