INSTALLING A MEGASQUIRT 1

OK I DO GET ASKED ALOT HOW HARD IT WAS WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO INSTALL ETC.
so im going to do a writeup on how to do it

this will take a few days as i dont have access to my car atm to take pictures
but ill start the install writeup now and add pictures prolly this weekend

this install guide will be for a ms1 v2.2
this is the cheapest way to go but it will not control the stock stepper iac motor but if u upgrade it to a ms2 cpu and add a few jumpers to the board u can control the iac with it

what do u need?
ms1 v2.2

http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/m...unit-p-34.html

240$'s assembled and shipped

wiring harness

this is a 12 foot long premade harness it is 65$'s
http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/1...eady-p-43.html
this harness simplify the install 10x over

now with the piggy back install u will need 2 additional sensors u cannot share the air temp sensore of cts with the stock ecm it cuts the readings in half
here is the iat sensor
http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/p...products_id=62
u must use an open element sesor in boosted applications, closed elemnt sensors do not read fast enough

and the clt
http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/p...products_id=58
and that about covers what u need for parts

Re: INSTALLING A MEGASQUIRT 1

TOOLS NEEDED FOR INSTALL

#1 15-25 WATT SOLDERING IRON
#2 WIRE CUTTERS AND STRIPPERS
#3 ASSORTED SCREW DRIVERS
#4 A DRILL AND ASSORTED BITS (FOR DRILLING HOLE FOR HARNESS AND FOR MOUNTING THE MS ECU
#5 SHRINK SLEEVING AND SOLDER BUTT CONECTORS
#6 ELECTRICAL TAPE
#7 ASSORTED WRENCHES AND SOCKETS ( FOR SENSOR INSTALL AND UIM REMOVAL
#8 MULTI METER AND TESTLIGHT (NOT NECASARY BUT GOOD TO HAVE)
#9 A ROLL OF SOLDERING WIRE (ALMOST FORGOT THIS ONE LOL)

----------
this is the supplied wiring diagram for the ms 1 v2.2 unit

now it looks hard the way its drawn, but its quite simple actually
ill photoshop the diagram here in a few mins to eliminate the unecasary connections for a piggy back install and to clarify a few of the connections that look confusing

Re: INSTALLING A MEGASQUIRT 1

ok let me add in the ignition wiring as well.if u are doing a fuel only install u want to skip this section

Internal Mods for V2.2 PCB's

full size img here
http://www.msextra.com/manuals/MS_Ex...-input_NEW.JPG

basically if u just ordered a ms 1 without the option of ignition control then u have to make these changes, if ur not comfortable making them most electronics repair places can do it fairly cheap.though u can just order the ms 1 with these mods already done and u dont even have to worry about it.i think it costs an extra 5 or 10$'s to get it complete with the mods.

Re: INSTALLING A MEGASQUIRT 1

ok here is a wiring diagram for a 7 pin hei, basically this is the wiring at ur dizzy and coil

now we have 8 pin hei mods, it is the sam module as the 7 pin the only diff is the extra ground pin

here is the 8 pin mod we have

PINS P & N ARE THE TOP 2 PINS THIS IS THE VR SENSOR CONNECTOR INSIDE THE DIZZY U WONT EVEN SEE THESE OR HAVE TO MESS WITH THEM

now if u bought the above harness that i listed above here are the rest of the conenctions

the 2 pin connector on the left side is 12v + and ground and generally come of the fp relay or main relay for the 12v +

now this leaves the 4 pin connector on the right this has 3 wires going to/from the ms ecu

first one up is

Pin E this connects to the blue/white wire labeled "IAC1A" OR PIN 25 OF THE DB 37 CONNECTOR IF UR MAKING UR OWN HARNESS

NEXT UP IS

PIN R THIS CONNECTS TO THE LARGE SHIELDED WHITE WIRE LABELED "IGN" OR PIN 24 OF THE DB 37

NEXT WE HAVE

PIN B THIS CONNECTS TO THE BLUE/WHITE WAIRE LABELED "IAC2A" OR PIN 27 OF THE DB37

THE LAST REMAINING PIN IN THE DIZZY CONNECTOR SIMPLY GETS HOOKED TO GROUND

Re: INSTALLING A MEGASQUIRT 1

ok now that out of the way lets get down to the installation.
the best spot i found for the ms ecm was on the passenger side bolted up to the bottom of the dash. basically u can screw it up flat there with 4 self tapping screws. this way the harnes can run right behind the kit panel and out alongside the factory ecm harness. behind the kick panel is also a good place to ground the ms unit.

i will post some pics of this this weekend

Re: INSTALLING A MEGASQUIRT 1

once u get the ms unit mounted, its time to geto work under the hood.
#1 disconect the battery
#2 remove tb, and upper intake manifold
#3 on a 2.8 u will have to remove the cold start injector switch which is located nexto the cts
on a 3.1 there will be a plug in the manifold instead,u need to remove the plug or switch and install the second cts in this location.

crap gonan need the pics to go from here ill add more info pics this weekend

I like the write- up so far.

The megasquirt is really a great option, and has endless capability. I'm glad that others have used it since I installed it!

If you need any help with the writeup, let me know.
