91 rs 3.1 timing prob

ok so i changed all the things you should when you buy a camaro for dirt cheap. to try and find the problem.

changed plugs/wires
dist cap & rotor
fuel filter
air filter
all the vacume lines
map sensor
oxygen sensor
has 42psi from the fuel pump
and probley something else i cant rember

so heres the problem i have it timed 10 degrees like it should be was at 16 when i got it. when you accelerate their is no advance on the timing light
it just sits at 10 degrees then at about 2000rpm the air pump backfires

any help is appreciated thank you

Re: 91 rs 3.1 timing prob

There is a wire that may be disconnected. It is behind the passenger strut tower comming out of the wiring harness and going back into it. Its a brown wire with a white stripe in my car. If is is disconnected then the timing won't advance.

Re: 91 rs 3.1 timing prob

isent that the wire you have to take off to time it the electric spark control or something like that then you plug it back in after timming the car?

yes it's pluged in

lemme try and describe it again i dident do a very good job last time.

watching it with a timing light i bring it up to 3000rpm
but it isent advancing it just sits at 10 deg.
so is their a worn out part in my dst. or what?

I understand your problem, I didn't hook that wire up once I retimed the car and it did the same thing. That is the only thing that I can think of. You may want to check for strong or weak spark.
