Why has my rev counter needle...
gone and sat on 7000??
My 88 Camaro is STILL off the road and in a local garage. Trouble is they don't know the first thing about it.
After replacing all the parts mentioned in my previous threads it was decided the over fuelling problem was down to the MAS. So I got one from a company in MI. Shipped to the UK, fitted and the car ran!!
So we set the timing, shut it off, started it, repeated this a few times. Happily parked it awaiting it's road worthyness test the following day.
Sadly it wouldn't start. I cranked it for a bit and got a couple of rev out of it but it died straight away. The needle on the rev counter then swept round to 7000 and that's where it's stayed.
I've bought and replaced the battery with today it only cranked with no sign of a fire. Any ideas guys??
I really need help o with this car before it set fire to it!!!!!
Cheers
Steve

Ok, by "rev counter needle" I assume you mean the tachometer. As for it sitting in the red, it is fairly common or the tachometers in these cars to be WAY off. Something with the resistors going bad. All I'm saying is that it may not be related to why your engine is not running. First, make sure your engine is getting fuel, if thats within the parameters, move on to the ignition system. Buy a spark tester (or just make one out of a good spark plug), check it at the coil wire, then check each plug wire. If that all checks out, ensure that you have working plugs with the proper gap. Is your exhaust equiped with a CAT? They can become clogged an cause all kinds of problems.
(fuel+spark)X(air in+Exh. out)=Vrooom vrooom
Good luck,
Max

don't forget to check the dumb problems that are easy to overlook. bad connections, corrosion, or wires that aren't connected to anything. stuff that could easily be your problem
