Better 3.1L pistons?
For some reason my computer wont allow me to search so whatever.
Does anyone know where I could get stock bore but higher than stock compression pistons for my 3.1? I cant seem to find any. I've got my eye on other perf. parts but figured pistons would be a good place to start.
Thanks.

look in the sticky about aftermarket parts. Honestly, I dont think any one makes an off shelf part any more (for pistons any way) your looking at a custom job. ( generaly about 100 bucks a piston, forged though.) stock cast pistons can take a decent amount, i've read about people on here running them with decent amounts of boost and not messing them up.

Re: Better 3.1L pistons?
I read that I could grab some pistons out of a '99 Alero and have somthing like 9.8:1.. Is this something that I could actually do? Just pull them out of that motor and drop them in mine? I'd like to get some kind of power out of this p.o.s. w/o boosting it. I considered that but have decided on building a 302 instead. Correct me if Im wrong, but most of the time more compression=more power right? While Im on a v6 board, is my auto tranny a 700r4 or a 200r4?

Re: Better 3.1L pistons?
they will lower your compression alot, 700r4
If going to a v8 stroke it to a 383 or find a 400. I've seen every thing from 302 to 400's and a mild 400 will out run highly built other motors.

Re: Better 3.1L pistons?
Why would they lower my compression? and you couldnt get too much lower, we've only got like what 8.5:1?
My friends got a 302 in his camaro and we estimated hes running 10.3-10.5's or so and its not all that heavily modified. Thats better than what I am shooting for. + 400's are hard to come by around here for some reason. Most people that have 1 have it sittin in their 2nd gen camaro or whatever their race car of choice is -- most of them arent runnin too awful fast.

Re: Better 3.1L pistons?
I would agree. If you are going V8, get a 350 and stroke it out to a 383. Or even just a 350 and bump up the CR. You said in another thread "bigger displacement-bigger power". So if you are looking for big power, put in a big motor.

Re: Better 3.1L pistons?
No hes never been down the track in that car. Although its not too heavily modified, its sittin on over 500rwhp with 11.5:1 CR. A 302 finds its nuts right around 3800 and doesnt stop pullin until about 8k. We've tried stopwatch timing on the street and came up with a best of a 10.38 and a worst of 10.66. Just kinda figured it was a little faster at a track and estimated 10.3-10.5. Definately 1/4 mile. 1/8 mile racing is stupid IMO
