Re: V6 TOP OUT take it to the limit
u can spin any of the v6 motors up that high though a stock 2.6/3.1/3.4 wont make it that high.ive posted the data logs of mine going to 7,400 or 7,600 rpms, its just gota be able to breathe up that high and make useable power.otherwise theres no reason to even try
Re: V6 TOP OUT take it to the limit
yea. i know i have gotten my camaro with a 5 speed up to 120mph @ 4700 and i had to stop do to traffic. my speedo went back to 20 mph or something around there hahaha good thing for gps :-D

Re: V6 TOP OUT take it to the limit
do urself a favor ifu get an achor brand replacement mount from ur local parts store dont even bother installing it, the rubber is very soft and the mount tears with only moderate abuse.if u can deal with the vibrations from a poly mount go for the energy suspension mount, ull never bust a trans mount again.

Re: V6 TOP OUT take it to the limit
I used to have a slightly modified 3.1l 1990 firebird a long time ago, and I have easily hit the speed limiter between 115 and 120. The car had more in it. To get it to shift in OD at that speed, you need to let off the gas slightly to let the tranny shift, and then apply gentle pressure on the gas so it doesn't downshift and she will do fine. I would estimate that a healthy 3.1L without the limiter will top out around 125 - 130 mph.

Re: V6 TOP OUT take it to the limit
they haven't given the 3500 and newer rods a RPM limit yet, but they're forged powdered metal so should hold to 7500+ I don't plan on finding out though.

Re: V6 TOP OUT take it to the limit
Y'all V6's must SUCK
95? 110? 115?
are we serious?
I hit 115 daily on the way to work, and I have so much left.
Im putting mine at about 140-150,, with the gearing to go 200+ if I had
the power.
at 110, Im just over 3000RPM in OD
at 115 its just starting to pull hard
at 125 i usually back off b/c i am not on a track
and do not want to loose my privilege.
But that lasar/radar scanner comes in handy.
Only mods to the car are Moroso Procoil F
dynomax super turbo cat back
and a worked 'silver bullet' (transgo shift kit, kevlar, corvete alum. servo etc.)
transmission from TCC on ebay.
and corvette 2250 stall
I also have new suspension (gr2's and moog springs)
UMI panhard/ LCA's / wonderbar
not that those would really make any diff here, but just laying it all out.
If you wanna call my Rapid fire delco plugs, and my bosch wires a mod, ok
Keep in mine my engine is in really good shape and fully tuned up.

Kuker, I assume you have a v6 in a 3rd gen? Not a 4th? 3.8's and 350's can stfu and stay out of our threads if they are only going to bash.
And I really don't see 140 possible with an iron head V6. I like the 3500 though! Awesome speed to hit, I wonder how it will change with wind resistance added
Sweet engine, way better than the RWD stuff. Burnout video? That would be awesome! I'll have to do both tires though.

It's not about how fast you can go.. any POS can do 100+..
It's about how fast you can get there.
lets see.. i'm going 0-106 in 13 flat

I love when people try and make claims that aren't possible.
Oh, and you're awesome for doing 115+ daily, we all wish we could endanger ourselves and others so often. I'm not one to complain about people speeding, but 115mph everyday is a bit much.
I won't believe you can hit even 140mph unless I at least see a video. Which you won't provide as you can't go that fast. Keep believing what you want, but anyone with half a brain knows it's BS.

Re: V6 TOP OUT take it to the limit
Ive done atleast 120 and it wasn't that hard, as its always some kid on the eway in some 90s FWD car and I stick with em side by side like Im trying, looking over doing movie shots, till they hit the speed limiter and fall behind quickly. And thats 110-115 in most cars.
But I do the excat same thing to them in my big Buick V8 wagon.
Stab it hard and watch em get more annoyed that they can't pass a 4ton pig.

Re: V6 TOP OUT take it to the limit
Only way you're getting 140-150 is with different gearing. You say you've got some trans from "TCC on ebay", so maybe you do. And the top gear would have to be damn tall. But there's no way the stock engine RPM limit, trans, rear end and wheel size can go that fast. mathematically impossible.
I love when people try and make claims that aren't possible.

keep them coming ppl i will soon post my video on youtube i just need to edit it and make it shorter
Re: V6 TOP OUT take it to the limit
no im not going to do 140 because there no tracks around here to do it
and im not doing it on the highway.
Id have to drive to englishtown which is hours and hours away
I have the gearing to do it no problem,
Feels like i have the power to, at 125 its still going strong.
it feels as steady and stable at 125 as it does at 55
I have the gearing to do 200+ but i dont have the power, if i had turbo and
nitrous yes.
and its a 1988 with a 2.8 and 120k

Still, doubt the little 6 has enough power to get to 140, let alone 150.

Re: V6 TOP OUT take it to the limit
140 should be possiable with the room to rev out 4th.
Long as you get to redline in each gear.
redline in 1-3 isn't that hard.
running up to redline in 1-2 goes quick.
Plenty of gearing and HP but beating the air will depend. headwind, cross wind. tail wind, sure you could easily find out by looking up slat flat run. They got a record for every car made, lots of stock classes.
I feel like maybe I got an edge now, with my new hatch, air noticable flows over the car faster/easier. I know cause before I never had bird problems. But now I am having to brake ever time as the bird can't seem to get out of the air streem like before. Big and little birds, don't matter, they get pulled down just barley getting away. I never had that happen before, they always broke free and wern't about to eat shield. Even if I sped up

Re: V6 TOP OUT take it to the limit
I just read through this entire post. I still hold the record. I posted a few years back....
123mph on a closed circuit road course (California speedway 2.8mile circuit)
and...
138 max speed downhill with the wind behind her.
2.8 with auto trans and 3.23 rear.

Re: V6 TOP OUT take it to the limit
To add justification to my previous stupidity, I've got an auto. So I was thinking the 4 speed w/ OD can't do it. Not sure on the math for that.
Anyways, no way a stock engine, even with some better parts would touch 140+mph. Wind, as Gumby said, is a problem. The front end on a 3rd gen Camaro is a friggin brick.
Plus, you'll need some pretty good tires to hold together at those speeds.

Re: V6 TOP OUT take it to the limit
Yea a slush box car will be much different, allot is just in the gearing.
Here is some more gearing to pounder.
Thats an iron duke 4 cylinder out of a 3rd gen.
It doesn't need power as gearing make it a great swamp hunting rig.

But its the wind that will say, whats what on top speed.

Re: V6 TOP OUT take it to the limit
I read an article a while ago about how a guy hit 200mph with 300hp in a 3rd gen camaro. So getting a 200hp (best case NA RWD 3.4L V6) to 200mph seems very unlikely. Even 140 looks very iffy. This arguement can only be solved with data logs.

Re: V6 TOP OUT take it to the limit
I was serious. He had a dyno proven 300hp V8 engine and had to change a lot on the chassis to hit 200mph. No mirrors, spoiler changes (used the RS little lip), underchassis aerodynamics, and just about everything. So since wind resistance is a square of the speed and the 2.8 V6 has little power, I doubt anyone can hit 140 without some serious effort.

Re: V6 TOP OUT take it to the limit
If I sucked the nose down to the pavement and out in that 3.4l motor I have had sitting in my garage now for a few years, I guarantee I could breach 150 in mine with the autotrans (No my trans is far from stock) with the gearing I have.
I just got my truck to the 152 mark and its far more an areodynimic brick than the Camaro is. I do not know what you guys are thinking saying these cars are not areodynamically sound, they are. Its just anything at that speed needs to have power to push it just off of things like tire rolling resistance. Just by ptting thinner tires back on my car could give me the 140 mark. Its just a street car though, not my racecar, so I am not going to alter things just to prove this point. (Beside, I do not have the car in m possesion currently- major divorce going on, I have wrote this car off, it was hers)
My truck has a Dakota digital dash with highspeed recall

Camaro chasing down a Vintage GT40 in the corners, but he wastes me down the straights photos 1-6 on that page you see him pull on me on the short straight, then I jump him back through the high speed sweeper, then hes gone again down the longer back stright. I gain a little back on every corner. Note: I AM ON STREET TIRES, he is on race tires...wider race tires at that. I pulled 123 around the high bank turn one- http://www.cardomain.com/ride/518752/8

That silvy had very similar rims to what my old s10 had.
A firebird could hit the mark easier then a camaro.

Best money ever spent.

It was the typical grey color, they haad hit it with some grey primer where it was dirty on the edges. Thing has been traded around shops but was never used. I know cause the spot for the hiinges need to be flat, would of never fit as it was.
I hit it will cheap rattle can flate black, once it was dry enough to sand on, the spray marks went away. In that pic it was also just sitting there, sanded to clean up spraymarks, over spray off window gone, bolted on and got it to latch close. Not using the shocks as they are to strong, the corners lift up and it don't seal. And I got a brand new soft seal. It does weigh allot less, I gained about 2in in height in the rear, use to have an even ride. Gotta fix it as I don't like the jacked up look.
