Just glad all it does is fry the cable and not the USB hub or port in the computer.

You know I have spill proof keyboards. They work well except when it comes to milk. You can't unplug them fast enough for some reason.

firebird1992

On your hatch search did ya see any body kits?

Would like to find just a rear kit to bludge out the rear fenders.
Like this but for a Bird.

Thats my top speed history. I hate to admit it but, the best was the 94 mustang. 5-speed, diff rear end, and lotsa work on the 4.6.

I've never really experienced whiplash from a motorized vehicle before or since that majestic ride down one thin *** and bumpy as hell country highway.
184 in 4th gear in a mustang huh. not possible. If you calculate the gear ratio for the trans/rear end ratio and tire size. Even using the most favorable figures the car would have to have about 15,000 RPM. And since no 4.6 could ever do that I think you may have meant 134?

It bothers me when people make stuff up to posture themselves.

Re: V6 TOP OUT take it to the limit

Dunno how helpful they will be, thought it would work out better.
CF being lighter then glass you'll probably want to do some spring or shock work. I got a god 2in raise in the rear with mine. You may get allot more.

Though if it works out you could probably sell a few of them, in CF or glass.
I love teasing folks with it, they all love it, then I say you can't find them anymore hehehehe

You need new rims, and avoid used rims. Get new, even the cheapest chrome or plain steel ones you can get in the size you want.

Once you have done that, you will do it with ever car you ever own.
The ride and safety is worth it. If ya got monster loot to drop $5000 on rims, thats fine too.

My Bird has the cheapest ones I could find, chrome sawblades in stock size that I painted black. On my Buick I got luck and a trailer and big truck place has factory stock steel rims for $67 each. [Hate chrome, chrome rust. powder or paint.]Course I also run new tires.

You will thank me later as once ya experience it, you do it for ever car you own from now on. Then do it for others. Good family gifts where everyone chips in for like one person b-day and get them new tires. LIke getting a hair cut feeling with a girl with big *****, a low cut shirt and apparentaly can't feel her rubbing them all up against you good [A shampoo and conditoin hair cut.]

Re: V6 TOP OUT take it to the limit

I have a '87 berlinetta with the 2.8 I have a little taller tires, my speedo tops out at 85mph. On my way up to Epping, NH dragway on 495N, I raced a newer V6 mustang. While the motor was in OD it was @ about 2500rpm, idk how fast I was going but the speedo was back @ 5-10mph. But at 70mph it only turns 1500rpm, but dosnt get out of its own way, just to make a pass i need to put it into 3rd.

So you mean that the needle was at the highest line? Your oil pressure sender might be bad. Mine would go the extreme...changed the sender and it fixed it.

Re: V6 TOP OUT take it to the limit

Fastest in my car was about 122 when I hit the speed limiter. I have a 1992 3.1V6 automatic. I was doing about 80 when I came to a straight section of road that is about 1 1/2 miles long. It hit the speed limiter 3 times before I let out of it. Each time it would cut the fuel or retard the timing or something until It got back down to 115, then it would give me full power again. When it hit that speed limiter, the car would really check up, and it felt just like you had let out of it completely.

That was a really dumb thing to do, though. I was 18 and felt like I was 10 feet tall and bullet proof. That is the sort of stuff that gets your license taken away, or worse, gets you pushing up dasies!

I know that they have speed limiters on some models not because of the abilities of the car, but because of the ratings of the tires that they put on them. Even some of the early 3rd gen (meant to say 4th gen) Z28s had 108 MPH speed limiters. Those cars also came with tires that were only rated for 108 MPH, not Z speed tires.

when i still had my 3.1 v6 car it took few min but i got the needle pegged judgeing by some where around 130 pretty much stock with a tpi dual snorkle intake there was diffently no limiter on that car like the tbi cars have 112 and BAM bounce and think you broke something till you do it again and notice its a limiter lol

I buried my needle on the 85 mph speedo. I was around 95-100 and could still feel it pulling in 5th.

I have had mine past the 120 on the speedo on some occassions . I am running stock everything except tires are BFG TAs in 225-60-15 . The car is 5-speed , 2.8 , and it has 190,000 + on it and runs great and has plenty of power for a 2.8 .

Re: V6 TOP OUT take it to the limit

if u could never get that top end b4 then there might b an issue with your tranny.90mph is third gear.anything over that is forth.if your getting 98mph and then loosing power third gear is dragging ut b4 finally going into 4th and giving you that final push, you might wnna watch pushing it if its been doing this for a while because it can kill your tranny

Re: V6 TOP OUT take it to the limit

Had mine at about 130 I think. That was over in Germany. I usually averaged anywhere between 100-120.

Found out at around 90 in the rain the wind forces it's way under the blades and all they do is spread the water instead of wiping it away.

Periods and commas are great.

hah yeah i got my license almost 3 years ago... damn i was a stupid kid then lol. my first car was a 1993 saturn sl1. piece of junk that was. anyways, i thought it would be a good idea to learn how to drift in my neighborhood (a cowtown with a lot of turns in certain areas). i actually did pretty good. i knew the area so when i got to a certain spot (it was a really sharp triple s turn that you cant see anything past the turn) i slowed to slower the speed limit. wound up hitting wet leaves (it rained 2 days before) and my traction control went off and my breaks wouldnt work (known problem for that car). wound up drifting by accident the whole 3 turns, until i slid off the road and hit the mailbox (made out of a TELEPHONE POLE) of the local illegal arms and meth dealer. someone called the cops and told them i was trying to flee the scene even though my car was stuck under a telephone pole. the cops came and slid on the leaves too (they were doing like 5mph) and gave me a speeding ticket. of all times to get a speeding ticket that day.... i was doing like 65 before and i was doing 15 when i crashed and the speed limit was 25.

did i mention that all this happened 2 hours after i got my license?

oh yeah and the most i got my 2.8l to go was 115mph on the highway. least thats what my gps said i was doing (speedo only goes to 85), and it usually underrates my speed

Re: V6 TOP OUT take it to the limit

here is one for you guys,
Clocked by a center hill cop in FL @ 137mph,
top of redline in 3rd, i backed off to shift into 4th and it was only at 4000rpm. car has potential to hit almost 150 in 4th with the throttle valve and plunger for WOT 4th gear shifts. 2.8 w 700r4, not sure the gears in the rear. alloy 16's with 225/60 r16's. swapped the stock intake for a specter cone filter, and bosch platinum plugs. timing gears were replaced with single tooth gears @ 10* timing and a thrush welded muffler with brand new pipe and cat hollowed out. run on plus fuel from shell and lucas oil stabilizer.

the 2.8 with 700r4 is fast top end, raced a 02 civic on I-75 on my way back from tampa(civic is electronically governed to cut out at 120mph), well he disappeared in a hurry from my rear veiw, he was on my a$$ till 120, but couldn't pass. Ive walked off on bmws and porsches @ 80mph roll on.

I go to ITT Tech in tampa and it normally takes an hour to get there from where i live @80-90mph, WOT all the way home, engine screaming, speedo needle bent from hitting the trip reset button, made it home in just under 30 min. all this with over 200,000 miles. then again i do regular maintenance( oil change every 3,000, clean the plugs and check everything at the same time) lucas fuel additive every couple tanks, and the occasional seafoam in the brake booster line; makes a hell of alot of smoke but damned if the car isnt pepped up noticeably.

I love the platform of the 3rd gen f-bodys, they handle like a dream. They outperform Ferrari's and Porsche's in handling, due to their low center of gravity. I LOVE MY RS!!!!!

My plan is to outrun a hayabusa, and please dont tell me its not possible, because it is. I have the plans, now i just need the money
I hate being unemployed.

Re: V6 TOP OUT take it to the limit

Well it sure is quick for a 2.8, but definately not killer. the 700r4 is a top end tranny, i would compare it to the powerband on a dirt bike, once it gets over a certain rpm, you can feel it put you in the seat. of course i dunno if the previous owner had done anything to it, but when the timing kept jumping i took a look, it had the twin tooth gears and the chain was streched to hell, i put the single tooth gears in and it was much better.

No, the 700r4 is most definitely a short tranny. The 3.06 1st gear has a huge gap between 2nd gear which is 1.63:1. They won't shift to OD at wot without modification, so at 1:1 your final drive determines max speed assuming you have the power to push it.

I say BS on 150mph with a mostly stock 2.8L V6. L98's barely did that with 100hp more. Even 137mph is questionable. The 3.1L v6's barely ran better than 130.

With optimal gearing it would take a thirdgen roughly 140hp to simply push the body through the air, not including rolling resistance and other parasitic losses.

Re: V6 TOP OUT take it to the limit

Well, I haven't gone super fast in a Camaro or Firebird...yet, lol

4 years back or so, I topped out my first car, my 96 Chevy Lumina 3.1. The governor kicked in around 108 mph or so, but I felt that it had a little bit more in it that was being held back. This was out in the middle of nowhere of course, where it was safer to attempt than a busy section of highway. The car cruised along quite nicely at about 100, but it was getting some pretty crappy gas mileage, LOL.

Probably gonna be more careful w/my Firebird though, since it's a bit more of a cop magnet, and the fact that a few years to mature has told me that it I should keep the majority of the aggressive driving on the track. That, and I like having cheap auto insurance

That's what I told the previous owner. He said its a u joint. both joints checked out fine before I pulled the 110 mph stunt.

I call on that one.

I'm not sure if you are calling on the previous owner or what I posted. Best thing to do is to get an aluminum shaft from a 1998 - 2002 V8 f-body. Or a new one for those MYs.
