Could this be a new mod for our camaro's?

I've seen mods like this that work by putting a resistor from radio shack on the IAC to add throttle response. This seems to be using a resistor to give the air temp sensor a constant current to fool the engine into thinking it's always getting ideal air temp.

The guy that made this simply bought a pigtail and spliced it onto the resistor which plugs into the female part of the air temp sensor wire. Then he covered it up with some nice cloth or something lol.

This has been dyno proven to give 8-10 rwhp on the trucks he's using them on. (my brother has done this to his 06 big horn) I wonder if it'll help our cars?

Do you by chance know of anyone that would be interested in a 1992 Camaro RS 305TBI? I just put it up for sale a week or so ago. I'm asking at least 1700 and I paid 2600. I originally bought it for my wife, but she's little scared of it. Too much power for her.

In all reality he probably got 8-10 on the biggest engine he tested this on. When I first got my Camaro I bought one of these(a cheaper one)...and I felt a tiny bit more "umph" on warmer days. I ended taking mine off...Id rather spend $50 somewhere else. I don't think its really worth it

i had a post on here about it, i forget the res you need, to much one way or another and you will be all screwed up, if you take your stock IAC, put it in the fridge to cool for a while, then hook a multi meter to the leads on it and get the res reading, then go get a resistor close to that size, cheap mod, under $1.50 ...... not to sure if it helps the HP much....i would just relocate my IAC to a cooler area on the car, that will work just as good and is free, just get it away for all the engine heat

i just threw a 10k resistor in just to see how it goes and it made the car idle smoother and it feels alittle quicker and more consistant just driving around.

basically alls this does is make the ecm see a colder air temp.the colder the air temp the more the ecm add's fuel and and spark advance

How much do the 305's put out? On Horsepower TV they had a green 92 with a 305 that put out 165 RWHP after a ton of mods. I don't know what they put out stock.

ANNNNNYWAYYYY

I tried the resistor on 2 cars tonight. Luckily my Radioshack is open till 9.

I got the 10K 1/2 Watt -- there were other 10K's but I just took a shot.

02 Crown Vic Results:
I didn't do much testing with this. I just stopped at Speedway on my way home and stuck it on. It fit nice and snug, the Camaro's pigtail wasn't as accepting. It was a little loose. At first nothing. After about 5-10 minutes of in-town driving I was sitting at a stop light and I guess my ecm realized what was up because my RPMs jumped up to 1500 for a few seconds and back down. After that I noticed a little bit more acceleration but the thing I'm most happy about is the vic stopped shuddering at idle.

92 Camaro Results:
I drove it to warm it up without the resistor. I slapped it on (wish there was a better way to secure it) and went for a drive. You guys may find this hard to believe but my idle has been stuck at 400 since I got the car. I've reset the idle with the paper clip, bought a new IAC, air temp sensor etc. It always went back to 400 after the car warmed up. I always thought that the circuitry at the base of the dist was defective and would stop working right once it got too much heat from the engine. I guess I was wrong b/c it stay smooth as glass at 800 stop light after stop light.

I came home and took it off, Plugged my air temp sensor back in and drive it to make sure I didn't imagine it. Sure enough my idle fell to 400ish and once again became irratic. Something that I'm sure about after driving it without the resistor is that there seems to be no power difference at WOT, but rather just a little more/smoother acceleration around town.

I slipped it back on and it's peachy - idle is much smoother - a little more power around town - steady at 800. Overall I'm happy with the doller I spent a I recommend this to everyone.

no, but I usually don't make a habit of insulting guys wives...

besides, for someone that is used to driving 4 cylinders, trq is scary, just ask a rice burner...

Update:
I had to take it off the crown vic. My mileage went from 430MPT to about 200. lol.

Camaro: I've actually gained about 10MPT... weird huh? Could have something to do with the resistance? Or that it's SD as opposed to MAF? Anyway, it worked out great in the end for the 3.1...

Not quite sure exactly where the resister goes. Is it on the IAC or temp sensor? I'd like to try the $1.50 10k Radio Shack mod.

in the air temperature sensor - When I drove a 99 escort some of the guys on that board put a resistor in the IAC for some reason, I can't remember why. They called it the POTS mod.

If its helping your camaro, then your IAT is likely bad and needs replaced.

All it does is lie to the ECM/PCM about what the incoming temp is. And yes, on a car thats running correct at the start, it will cause the MPG to go down because colder air requires more fuel.

there is a chart floating around here that tells what the IAC resistance is at different degrees. Use that and you can figure out what ohms you would like to tell the ECM/PCM.

I know this is really old. But did anyone figure out if this is worthless? And what would you do? Like bypass the iat sensor? Or put the resistor in line on the output line of the sensor to the ecm

I didn't read the whole thread but I'm guessing if you're fooling the ECM into thinking the intake air is colder than it really is, you would just run rich and waste fuel.

Just make changes to get the engine to run cooler on its own [below 200f] and it will "add power", remove AC rad, proper air dam, true cold air - true, you must take air directly from outside the car. you wont gain HP, you just wont lose HP from heat.
