Throttle Problems need help

When I start my car sometimes it will idle VERY high, and then I can shut it off and restart and somethimes it will do it again and otehr times it will just idle normal.

Also last night we had just put the throttle body back on with the new gasket and I drove it around for a while, I came home, shut it off and went in the house. About a half hour later I came back out to go to the store and I went to start it and it fired and died right off. Tried again died right off again. Like it will fire then sputter and die instantly.

This mourning I went out to the car, started it. High idle, restart, high idle, restart normal/high idle, restart, pretty normal idle. As I was driving I was sitting at a stop light and it started idling real bad it would rev and fall and bog, then rev and fall and bog. When the light turned I drove off and it drove normal.

What do you guys think could be the problem? Bad wiring to the TPS, or bad TPS? Or is it possible that it is just runing rough because I has sat for a few years?

Re: Throttle Problems need help

first the fuel has fuel injector cleaner in it and it has a quarter tank of old fuel and i filled tank up with new

second i took off the IAC and cleaned it, and the part where it goes into the throttle body out with carb and choke cleaner, and didnt do any good. How do you test one? I know they are supposed to move a little, and it does but VERY little and I don't know if it enough.

Is there any way that the IAC will free up if I just drive it around and force it to move? If not what should I do about it?

Re: Throttle Problems need help

Need to do a quick search on here, there is a part telling you how to do it somewhere......
if its intermitant like that then it may not be moving freely enough to do its job.
you should really check the codes your computers throwing out aswell. might give a clue, and you only need a paperclip to do that - again a quick search will tell you how. keep us informed, if i had more time id search for you

Re: Throttle Problems need help

I took the IAC out and cleaned it and got it to move all the way in and out. Unfortunatly that didn't help anything at all.

There seems to be a pattern where I can go start the car, and it will run, but after I drive it for a while and shut it off, I can't fire it back up again for a while...

Kinda weird what does this mean?

lol btw can't even test if the car will start cause there is ice or something in the doors locks and can't get into the car LOL

Re: Throttle Problems need help

The vaccum lines are fine and I tried resetting the cumputer before work the other day. I unhooked the negative battery cable and turned on the lights for like 5 mins to competly drain system, and I plugged it all back up and nothing...I think all the times I have tried to start the car have fouled my plugs again ugh o well ima pull them out and clean them and see if it fires. if I reset the computer would it automatically do the idle relearn?
