Hole for extra starter?
Now I realize you wouldn't put two starters on it but that's what it looks like. I just got an 88 Camaro with the 2.8l and 5-speed. Right by the clutch slave cylinder I can look right in and see my flywheel. Is there supposed to be a dust cover there? It's like they mirrored the starter hole onto the other side. I'm just finding more and more surprises with my car. Luckily I just saw a third gen RS getting put into my local junkyard the other day so hopefully I'll have something to scrounge from!

I'm thinking the hole is there for back in the early 80's when the 2.5
4 cyclinder was in the camaro.

mine has the same thing. but yea, your supposed to have a flywheel dust cover. not sure why its there, I thought it might come in handy though if you try to put a FWD v6 in.

Cool. I'll see if I can find one in the junkyard. Gotta keep my little V6 running good until I get the cash for a purty LS1/T56 combo!

2.5 and 2.8/3.1/3.4 and most FWD engines share the same trans bolt pattern, which means that our little bellhousing is used on both the F-body and the S10 (FWD transaxles have an integrated bellhousing, for the most part). Both the F car and the S10 had the 4 banger... the pickup had it for longer. The starter is used on the driver's side on the 4 cyl... If you look at the housing with the engine removed, you will sometimes see 2 sets of mounting holes. Ours are the ones that are slanted downwards towards the driver's side, and the straight ones are used on the S10.
BTW, dust cover is good to have, but if you are going to be swapping soon, don't bother getting one, unless you live in an area where the clutch can really be messed up (sandy climate, salty roads). Been running for almost 3 years without one with no probs. Should get one, but, eh, it seems like I'm losing trans fluid out the nose of the trans and I'd rather that the fluid runs out the bottom of the bellhousing as opposed to messing up my clutch, which is bad enough (improper break-in, not lack of cover).
