Take it out, hold it upside down, so the part that goes into the TB is facing down then spray the end and spring off with some TB cleaner. You hold it like this so the cleaner wont get in the actuator and short it or something.

This thread is ALL YOU NEED!

Stunt Double has a camaro and im not sure what you have, but if its an 85-90 camaro, you already have a "CAI". Your air filters are located in front of the radiator, no engine heat to get up there, its about as "cold air" as you can get coming into your engine. if you do it any other way, youre going to be sucking in warm air from under the hood in the engine bay. you can throw in K&N filters if you want, but if you dont wanna cut the bottoms of the boxes off, just leave it stock.

thanks for the imput, as i read more and more on the subject i'm starting to agree. i'm just gonna armor-all up the plastic tubing and put in some fresh filters. and i'm not going for the expensive kind either - alot of these boards are saying its not worth the money. just keep fresh cheapies in it

On My Own, I believe you can modify the 90-92 cars to use the dual snorkel, check w/ Dale.

Stunt Double, the only reason I went with K&N is because I never have to buy new again, in the long run you save money by just cleaning them out. Yes they do flow slightly better, not sure on the cfm increase or anything, but I just did it to save $$ in the long run.

let the car warm up, slowly feed about 1/3 can through the brake booster line(back of intake to drivers side big black rubber line) or throttle body. let the vacuum do most of the work, don't let it leak and suck air. it'll burn white smoke a while.

thanks the pic helps alot cuz there are a million of those sensors that look like that, but your sayin remove my air filter and spray sea foam down the tube?

What you can do is cut a whole in the body of your engine compartment (floor of it somewhere) and have your cone sticking into the hole cut in where it will then suck cold air from under the car. I bought my firebird with a nice cold air intake. It sucks up nice cold air right from under the car.

no, take out the part that doesn't flex in your intake tube. it has a harness wire connection on it. as in, remove it from the vehicle. then spray brake cleaner in it and let it dry.
iac will be similar, remove it from the vehicle, (it screws in and out like a bolt) and spray the tip and spring portion.

seafoam will get poured through the brake booster line, mostly just sucked up by vacuum, not really a pouring action.

OK, I have a question. Where is the brake booster line that will suck the seafoam into your engine an make it smoke? I've looked around alot for it but can never find the right vacume. If someone could circle it on that pic it'd be great.

It will work, but make sure you avoid puddles or any bumps in the road at all costs. Get that intake sucking up water and .............. hello hydrolock.

No, you cannot tune your computer without money and the knowledge of what your doing.

Sounds like you'll probably just be spending most of your money making this car run stock. When you get it it'll probably need new plugs, wires, rotor cap, air filter, clean the TB, run seafoam through it, clean the IAC, a new battery, alignment, and who knows what else. The alternator could be bad, the tires could be dry rotted, on and on.
how true this post was lol

i got a spectre filter replacement, not a cai tho.
i need new plugs, wires,cap..but these are alot harder to get to than the carb motors
prolly have to clean the tb
clean the iac, by the way which way do i turn it, cuz neither way makes it budge
the alt just died on me
and a few of these screws are stripped and they are a b*tch to get off
so i cant get my alt off to get my car running

so again

I NEED HELPPPPP LOL

Thanks, I thought it was pretty true too. Having the 3.1, my IAC just has 2 screws on it. I don't see a reason to make it reverse thread though, so I'd assume it unscrews in the same direction as anything else.
The screws are stripping when your taking them out? That sounds kinda weird.. I don't wanna insult your intelligence so I wont start telling you the basics to removing an alt.

Re: getting my first v6 2.8 HELPPPP

alternators can be a bitch. not so much on these cars though. try staring at it and poking around it, maybe you'll find something you didn't see earlier.

IAC unscrew is turning toward the drivers side valve cover. IIRC.

Re: getting my first v6 2.8 HELPPPP

no this alt has 3 screws to take off one long one on the bottom, a stripped one on the front right, and one in the back, thats being block by some silver tube, that i cant get to and i dont wanna take off the tube if im not suppose to.

and should i attempt to take off the IAC with pliars or my fingers, cuz like i said neither way it doesnt move and i dont wanna break anything.

i need help cuz getting these simple but hard task done so i can get my baby running again.

Re: getting my first v6 2.8 HELPPPP

just take off what you need to. don't think of it as "shouldn't" because its your car. nobody will get mad at you messing with your stuff. use a big adjustable wrench on the IAC.

EDIT:I'll have to look at my alternator. I haven't touched it since I put it on my new bracket almost a year ago.

the IAC uses a bunch of torx screws to mount to the throttle body

if your using a wrench and your hearing cracking then you prolly need a new IAC...

why didn't you read the Haynes manual you just bought?

Re: getting my first v6 2.8 HELPPPP

we're talking about the actual plastic sensor here. its possible to take off the whole top plate of the throttle body and get to the iac tip and spring. both ways work, so if your nervous, try that route.

you still have egr? that stuff is complete crap. I ditched mine a long time ago. for future reference, you can get S10 manifolds and they don't have egr on them(because it was by the tb on carb or tbi.) you'll get an SES light though. if you "want" to keep it go ahead and just take off the tube. its not worth fighting with.

well, you won't be able to pass an emissions test, but like I said, S10 manifolds are probably the best way. if not you can take off your egr valve and use the base of it to make a blocking plate that bolts on in place of it.

yea, it works fine. just make a little block-off plate and put it in place of the egr valve, like I said. you'll get a code for it, but so what? I'm not running ANY emissions in my camaro.

what do you mean block off plate, the haynes doesnt discuss removing this and keeping this off.

is there a proper way of takin it off and everything that comes with it

do u have pics of yours?

1 long message would prolly help and save a lot of questions ha

Re: getting my first v6 2.8 HELPPPP

take a piece of metal, thick metal. take off the EGR Valve and mark holes to drill into the metal so it'll bolt on instead of the egr valve. your basically just closing the passage off so nothing can go through that metal tube. then you can leave the tube there, or take it off and make another block off plate for the manifold. this is all about making blockoff plates. a rectangular piece of metal that has 2 holes in it so you can bolt it back down instead of something else. namely the egr valve. this prevents exhaust from going into you intake manifold. you'll also need to plug the vacuum line left when you took off the egr valve. sorry, no pics. I run S10 manifolds, I'll check later. Don't overthink this! its uber simple, lol.

the solenoid and the valve are the same thing we're talking about, right? the actuator, that allows exhaust to enter the intake is what you should take off, then put a block off plate in place of it. that way there's no mechanism, just a dead end for exhaust. you can take the vacuum line off and put a pretty little vacuum line plug on it, OR do it the cheap way and screw a bolt/screw into the open end of the line. anything else can be left alone.

your computer needs to do a relearn procedure. might take a while.make sure that everything is installed correctly, everything hooked up and no vacuum leaks.

Re: getting my first v6 2.8 HELPPPP

The solenoid and valve are not the same thing, at least on the 2.8. The valve is the $25 part that comes right off the manifold, and the solenoid (trace the vacuum lines coming off the valve to it) is a black box looking object mounted closer to the firewall.

If you want your ECM to "relearn" or reset, unhook the battery for 10 min, then go drive it. If it still runs like crap, you may have damaged your IAC. Personally, I dont recommend spraying a sensor down w/ cleaner, but to each their own.

thanks for the clarification. leave the solenoid alone. you can't really do anything with it.

Dude, you gotta get it fixed or youre just gonna cause more issues. Get it running how it should, then worry about "making it faster". Your EGR block off isnt your concern right now. You might be able to borrow a timing light from Autozone, or find someone who has one...... are you positive its your timing though?

Re: getting my first v6 2.8 HELPPPP

Since you cleaned the IAC, have you had the check engine light at all? Did you check to see if Autozone loans timing lights out? BTW, how many miles are on the car and has the timing chain been replaced that you know of?

Re: getting my first v6 2.8 HELPPPP

I circled the solenoid, pointed to the egr valve that needs to be blocked off. hilighted where you unbolt it and bolt on a blockoff plate and put an x through the line you plug up. pictures help.

Re: getting my first v6 2.8 HELPPPP

ok im having a major problem...and i've been searching and i narrowed it down to one of these 4 problems.

i might need a new IAC

or a new fuel pump

or a timing set

or o2 sensor

but i cant afford to replace all these prolly only 1.

now the problems im havin is unless i hold the gas my engine wont turn over and stay running. at lights and stop signs sometimes my car will die. sometimes when i push the gas the car acts like it will die until i let go of the gas, and will keep doin this until i cut the car off. and my gas mileage is horrible prolly 12 miles to the gallon

so again i need help cuz i cant afford to replace all these

did you hold it upside down when you cleaned it out? its very important. it's also very important that you wait until its completely dry before using it again. more likely that it's the IAC, was it running alright before you cleaned it?

Re: getting my first v6 2.8 HELPPPP

O2 sensors should be replaced regularly any way. They dont stay good for very long.

This sounds like the same thing that was wrong with my car when I first bought it. I did everything you mentioned to try and fix it but nothing worked. Finally I took it to a shop, who told me my fuel injectors were shorting out and buring my PCM. I got new injectors and a reman. PCM, fixed the problem right up. I hope this isn't whats wrong with yours since this cost a good abount of money to fix...
