'87 Crankshaft Casting #

Have my '87 V6 that requires a new crankshaft. Eagle makes it new, and it is offered through Summit. The only thing is that it stated it is for replacement "crank #817".
I THINK my crank says 991, but I am not positive. Anybody know if the #817 crank will fit and function properly, or does modifications have to be made? It also says "external balanced" for the Eagle crank.

187 is the 3.1 crank with 3.307" throw. If you use a 3.1 crank in your 2.8, you will need 3.1 pistons, and you will now have a 3.1

So, the #187 is a 3.1L's crankshaft then. More or less, it is creating a stroker if I was going to purchase it? I imagine that this would use shorter pistons??
Everything else is the same then, inlcuding the piston traveling order; don't need one piston going up when it should be going down.

The wristpins were moved in the 3.1 pistons, same firing order, same rods.

Yes, you are creating a "stroker"

Are only the 3.1 pistons required (w/ the crank) to create a stroker?

Re: '87 Crankshaft Casting #

Is it worth spending money on it, like what kind of gains do you get? What size pistons do I get?

Re: '87 Crankshaft Casting #

Alright, I have the #817 crank ordered, along with the 3.1L pistons!!!! This will complete the engine build internally.
Being that I am changing this crankshaft out and will have it all internally balanced, what Harmonic Balancer do I purchase??? What about the Flexplate???

Re: '87 Crankshaft Casting #

I'm such an id10t!

I transposed the casting numbers.

189 is the 3.307" stroke, 187 is the 2.99" stroke.

IF the crank you bought is a forging, it seems really low on cost.

If it is fact a forging, keep the crank and exchange the pistons for 2.8 pistons, if it is a stock nodular iron crank, I would call and change the crank to 3.1.
