Re: A/C Delete Pulley

chances are u dont even need it.

aparently on some cars u can just go right fromt he power steering pump to the tensioner/alt.

this worked great on my car but a few ppl have reported the belt would rub the water pump,so its possible over the years that the ps pump has 2 dif fmounting locations.

only way to see if it will work for you is to try it

Re: A/C Delete Pulley

Re: A/C Delete Pulley

a buddy at work was telling me today that all i should have to do is when i go to buy my new belt and they ask if i have a/c just say no. they should give me the proper belt for my car without an a/c unit (shorter). Is this true or will this work?

Yeah, just say you don't have A/C.

As for the A/C delete pulley, I think Autozone sells one, or SummitRacing.

For serpentine belt engines:
Part number at your local store interchanges with Drive-Rite 815K6, need to replace mine as it got coolant on it when I resealed my water pump.
To delete the compressor, you need to remove it from the car. Then, you remove the rear bracket from the power steering pump (but leave the rear bolts in place as they WILL leak if you remove them) and the front 2 bolts, from the head and the water pump (just loosen the one on the w/p). Loosen your pressure hose at the back of the p/s pump, and tilt the pump to the center of the engine until the second bolt hole next to where the original bolt came out of is aligned with the hole in the cyl head. Put the top bolt back in this second hole, tighten the bolt on the power steering pump and the pressure line at the back of it, install your belt, and crank her up.

Re: A/C Delete Pulley

That's weird... I went to O'reilly's and asked for a belt for a 3.1 with no a/c. He looked it up and it came up a 92.5" belt. I noticed on the sticker, it gave 2 different belt routings for a/c and non-a/c setups. I bypassed the a/c and it did get VERY close to almost rubbing near the top of pump and the bottom of the tensioner. Hmmm....well, GM had it routed like that. Go figure.

The only way it works with the shorter belt is to alter the mounting of the P/S pump as I described above. I've tried it without, and I ended up returning the belt because it was too short to go over the tensioner without changing the position of the P/S pump (before I knew about the second hole and saw the A/C-less '91 in the junkyard).

Oh, and that belt part number I posted above is for a non-A/C, non-AIR car, so those WITH AIR would have to get a different belt.
