V8 to V6 lol prolly the only section of the boards that wont hang me for this lol
well one of my friends found my old 86 f-body up for sale
and im prolly gonna buy it back
it has a wiped cam
car was originally a305 4bbl 5 speed posi car
when i got the car the previous owner had bored and stroked the 305 to 335/340 ci, left stock heads on it holley intake and a carb.
i never had th4 motor apart so i cant verify it but it was deff alot stronger then ur stock 305
well it looks like ican get the car back for around 600 bucks
so rather then rebuild the 305/stroker motor im gonna do another v6 car
i think im gonna use this car to do the lq1 3.4 dohc swap into
prolly gonna be an turbo/twin turbo setup/ t5 car setup for drifting or auto-x

here is my old car with my current rs for those of u that have never seen it

how about putting the 4.3 in that car? you would already have the tranny for it.

from v8 to v6? two words "v6 lover"
why dont u go v6 4.3L if this car has a k-mount for a 90 degree angle engine? plus, the tranny will work. no needs to buy another tranny.

the 4.3 runs into issues around 400 hp then it gets real expsensive in a hurry
the kmeber is the same for the 90* and 60* motors just diff mounts
the car has a wc v8 t5 in it so im sure i could seel it to cover the cost of getting a v6 t5 setup

are u planing on running this car with more than 400HP
i see that as a little too much for a v6. i would consider then a LT1. piece of cake swap. but a 3.4 with turbo would be a good experience too

dohc, can't really beat the 2 more valves. i like the aluminum heads personally. my mom's 02 malibu 3.1 can beat my camaro 3.1. its really sad, i mean, i have the sports car, but the 4 door getting 30 mpg can beat me. lol

My vote is to put a Grand National turbo motor in it.

LQ1 FTMFW! I have a 95 GTP with the LQ1 in it, great engine with lots of potential! A friend of mine turbo'd his LQ1 and its a beast. If it works out for you I might consider the same thing, lots of LQ1's around these parts. A little advice, grab the engine from a 96-97 Monte Carlo, it has the better upper/lower intake manifolds and a bolt on throttle body. Makes a little more power.

Re: V8 to V6 lol prolly the only section of the boards that wont hang me for this lol
to fix whats there wouldnt be as simple as a cam swap, from what ive been told 2 of the cam lobes are just about gone. so u know all that metal got threw the entire motor.
id deff have to pull the entire motor apart, not something im interested in doing
but because it is a stroked 305, i will keep the motor on the side for a future project.
i will say one thing that motor was an awsome street motor not particular fast but alot of fun driving on the street

Re: V8 to V6 lol prolly the only section of the boards that wont hang me for this lol
Taking the motor apart isn't that big of a deal, plus, your only speculating as to how much damage was done internally. You won't really know until you see the engine in person for yourself. Plus, since your planning on swapping to an LQ1 anyway, an electric fuel pump will need to be swapped in regardless, so that would help justify an LT1 cam swap. The dowel pin only needs to slightly be grounded down, but hey, if you don't want a barely used LT1 camshaft for free though....

Re: V8 to V6 lol prolly the only section of the boards that wont hang me for this lol
lol u just want me to build a small block :P
yeah its possible a good flush and cam install would do the trick, but id always be worried about debris from the cam lobe inside the motor.
i personally wouldnt trust it unless i tore the whole motor down and went threw it.
then again i might need a turbo sb to keep up with u if u ever get ur tt sb 406 put together.
speaking of u free today??

He'd have to have roller lifters with straps and springs to match the roller cam profie as well. and a Soft dist. gear.
Besides.. I think he's a V6 man anyhow.

3.8 buick is nice (found one in a 79 monza with a 4spd attached and I still want that engine for something).
4.3 is a damn good engine because it is the SBC's little brother and it is pretty boost friendly. I have one out of a 88 s10 that has a blown headgasket and it is tempting me to put it in a ultra light car.
3.4 DOHC is a good engine and loves turbo's, but it is plagued by the timing belt problems. I remember alot of Fiero guys installing them but I remember them having a FWD bell housing or something like that making them difficult to install on the 60*v6 bellhousing.
I thought about putting my cosworth 4cyl into my camaro and I got flamed for that even though it puts more horses to the wheels in stock form than most engines in a 3rd gen. But I decided that the f-body weighted to much to make use of the little monster so its going into my sub 2000lb vega.
Do as you wish as long as its faster than it was when you bought it and it looks top notch.

I was considering a 4.3 swap, but money was an issue....
it's cheaper to build a gas guzzling window rattling v-8
maybe with the economy sucking, demand will go up and performance parts will get cheaper for 4holers and 6bangers!!!

I take it you haven't replaced the belt on one of those motors before. Granted it'll be 100X easier in rwd configuration, but I had to pull off a ton short of pulling the damn motor out last time I did one. Not fun. I assume you're replacing the springs as well so it doesn't look all goofy with the front end all jacked up. I have to agree with the nay sayers here, why go to a v6?

Sounds like an interesting swap.
I too am swapping out a V8 (LB9) for a V6... not sure which one though.
