Where to start tooling on my 92
Hello Third Gen
So as a bonding thing with my dad i have asked him if we could start fixing up my old car (92 Camaro RS 4 speed auto). It has been sitting for the better part of 2+ year as i got a new car & stopped driving it.
Right now it not starting but i think its to do with old fuel in the tank & the battery was 100% dead. Have tried a new battery still not turning over. Going to try adding some new gas & see if it fires up.
So my real question is I don’t have any real skill working on car. My dad hasn’t really work on them either. I just want something once every few weeks to do with him & fix up a car at the time. So what would be a good place to start?
I am the type of person who jumps in both feet & will learn to swim. So i was thinking if the gas thing works i want to replace the gaskets on the car. Seems like a good place to start & get a feel for how hard its going to be. The car right now has a small oil leak. (that last time it was driven it did) nothing that big as I never dropped low on any of my fluids before i would change my oil.
Any input would be a great place to start & if gasket replacement is AutoZone ok.

Hmm, old gas shouldn't stop it from turning over.. It could make it so it doesn't fire but wont make it not turn over.
I guess before you start work you want to ask yourself, whats wrong with the car? If you have an oil leak it could be the oil pan, like mine is (too many speedbumps :P), but most likely it's the rear main seal. Fixing that would be an almost total engine tear down. Not something I'd suggest jumping right into.
Once you get it to at least run I'd do a major tune up on her:

plus clean your exhaust gas recirculator and idle air control.

Well maybe i was using the wrong term. It will click like its trying to start. But just not start. I was driving it daily more then 40+ miles a day & was having no problems with it. Then it sits for 2 year & now it will not start so i cant think of any reason other then battery & gas.
Major Tune-up Sounds like a good place to start. So if it get it fired up i will do that on Sunday with him.
Any other idea's after that
