Two holes in Oil Filter Adapter
Two holes in Oil Filter Adapter
I tore down my 1987 2.8L engine about 4 years ago and took good pictures and documented everything well with the exception of one thing. I can't find a photo of the oil pressure switch(es).
I've searched the entire site and read all posts related to the oil pressure switch but can't find any info.
Can someone tell me or post a photo of the switch or switches on the oil filter adapter? There are 2 holes and I know one is for the bell shaped sensor. I think the other is for the single terminal short switch that cuts off the engine if the car loses oil pressure but can't remember for sure.
Thanks!

Re: Two holes in Oil Filter Adapter
the 2 switches your talking about are the right switches. I'm fairly sure it doesn't matter which hole the sensors go in. worst case scenario is the switch won't allow your car to start and you wont have an oil pressure guage. if it matters to you though, I believe the fuel pressure switch goes in the hole toward the front of the engine originally. that's where mine is.

Either or in terms of the holes. However, if you are missing these things, is the oil shooting out of there like no tomorrow?
Seriously, though, there is a 2-wire and a 1-wire bell that goes into the adapter, both at the same time. The 1-wire is for the gauge or idiot light, and the 2-wire is the fuel cutoff switch. However, the bigger one goes on top, according to the FSM.

Re: Two holes in Oil Filter Adapter
Either sender can be interchanged between holes. When I put on my pacesetter headers, I switched the units around to get the bellstyle sending unit farther away from the pipe.
Re: Two holes in Oil Filter Adapter
Excellent. Thanks for the replies.
The engine is on an engine stand being reassembled. I pulled out the wiring harness last night and located the connectors. It is a single terminal bell sender with the 2 terminal sender for the fuel cutoff.
I pumped oil trough the engine last night and everything looks good.
thanks!

Re: Two holes in Oil Filter Adapter
Cool! glad to hear you got it running.
Just so you know, you can't rely on that switch to cut off the engine if the oil pressure drops. That switch is wired in parallel to the fuel pump relay. If the relay dies, the oil pressure during cranking will activate the pump. If the engine then loses oil pressure with a good relay, the relay will keep the fuel pump running at the car will happily run itself into oblivion.
