whats a v6 worth

so unfortunately im thinking about selling my 86 bird shes a 2.8 5 speed. that ive toyed around with a lot i have the whole 89 aero-package and have the whole interior converted to black. i got rid of the hide-aways and gave it 4 driving lamps and 2 in the fog light (say what you want but i think it looks bad-a$$) any way the cars pretty solid minus a little surface rust on the rear quarters. most people would want to paint it because the roof, rear quarters and 1 fender is white while the rest is black.the car runs flawlessly its blown off my cousins 305 on a regular basis. im just looking for something new. so does anyone have an idea what our v6s might be worth?

when you "mod" a car or customize it, the value drops. with the car being a v6, multi colored and the headlights you like, no one else may want it. i would start with asking $1200 and go from there.

well i can put the headlights back and sand and primer the rest of the car black so is kinda matches but will that be worth it? i also have subframe connectors that i never put in, a spare 2.8 out of an 89 along with the 700r4. i have a new set of 2.8 cast heads and a set of 3100 heads (i think) 2 sets of gm 9:1 pistons and 1 set of 10:1's i think thats all i have, but do you guys think i would make out better selling is as a project car with all the parts or see if anyone wants to buy my parts and whats left of my parts car? (we could really use a v6 classified section btw)

I'll agree to that, I don't even bother looking in the engine/drivetrain part of the classifieds because it's all V8 stuff, and if you ask about V6 parts everyone thinks your a loser.

What you have done to that car sounds pretty cool, do you have any pics of it you could post. A car with modifications wont NESSACARILY sell for less. It depsnds on who's looking to buy it. It's only worth what people are wiling to pay for it.

If you want to sell those subframe connectors I'd be interested. I've been wanting some, post or PM me a pic of them.

I like that, how the lights are in that little strip rather than ones that flip up.

Re: whats a v6 worth

I would just put it up for say 1500 and see what kind of feedback you get. Not saying you will get that much but you never know. If you could have it primered the same color I think it would be a plus.

Re: whats a v6 worth

thanks guys i think im going to sand the white down and primer it black or maybe even pick up a cheap sand blaster and go wild im hoping to get a little more tho a friend of mine is selling his 86 305 basketcase for 1450 and his car has some serious rotting issues behind the door on the door and the frame so is a v8 even the 305 that much more valueable?? (btw im starting another post for my parts and parts car for those interested )

Re: whats a v6 worth

Well I picked mine up cheap and it has rust issues. But what amazes me is it still has the "Camaro" factor. I have had people offer to trade me newer vehicles for it. Take a Ford Taurus of the same year with rust. Its practically worthless. But because its a Camaro, people will pay more. It may not be worth it but these cars are still popular. Looks are important though. I would at least try to get it one color.

Yes if it has a V-8 its much more valuable. To me its not a big deal but to most people, they want the v-8. More power and not a huge difference in gas mileage if driven correctly. When I was younger, I wouldn't own a car unless it was a v-8. But now I am older and 1/4 mile and 0-60 times just are not that important to me any more.

Re: whats a v6 worth

Put it up for $1500 if it runs strong, also say you can include extra parts. If there's no damage to the body, then being multicolored shouldn't be that much of an issue. If you primer it all the same color, I would even shoot for 1700, maybe 2000. I know it's a long shot, but it is a Pontiac, and they don't make Pontiacs anymore.

And here, V6s can sell pretty high. A lot of people in Washington want cars with high mpg. My V6 cost me $800, and right now I'm negiotating a sale of an 89 Firebird (305) for $575 that RUNS. Guess it all depends on how fast you want to sell it. Someone will come around and buy it, there's always someone that will pay the price you want.

Here's a link to the said Firebird: http://seattle.craigslist.org/kit/cto/1148881836.html

Re: whats a v6 worth

my v6 cost me $450. in about the same condition of yours. but considering the money i put into it to make a nice running car (simple stuff, plugs, wires, exhaust, etc..) was a lil over 1k. so i pretty much paid 1500 for a good car

Re: whats a v6 worth

I'm close to putting $800 into my camaro. Replacing all factory parts, yes, factory parts. Like the EGR and ignition. Runs 500% better. So if I was to sell mine (after fixing some dents and applying primer) I would sell it around $2000 just to make some profit. But doubt I would get near $1500.

Re: whats a v6 worth

Yeah its embarrassing but I have had over 50 cars since I was 16. I am now 38. Some were of course projects that never took off but I have done a lot of buying, selling, and trading. I recently bought a low mileage 2000 Cavalier from a dealership for 1500. They were asking 2500. Now is a good time to buy from a dealership but that is another story. Its hard to make a profit on a car because you spend a lot of time and money on it and its hard to value all of that. My dad always says "Its worth what you can get". Its like anything. When you put up your add highlight all of the positives and disclose the negatives. When you buy a car you want to know that the seller is being honest. When they try to lowball you and nit pick, then you just tell them thats the price. No apologies. I always try to have a number in my head that I will accept and I wont go any lower. If a long time goes by and no one buys... then maybe I set my goal too high. It is like a psychology lesson. Remember how it feels when you are interested in a car? You think about it all the time. You want it. Thats the way the guy is when he is looking at your car. So hit him with the positives and sell it. Sorry. I have been mumbling too long.

Re: whats a v6 worth

I paid 2K for mine. Thought it was a good dealat the time. Southern car with no rust anywhere (VERY hard to find in Michigan), 90K on the clock, smooth shifting tranny, and good sounding engine, even came with extra parts (headligh motors, exhaust pipe, tail lights, and some other stuff).
Turns out fuel injectors were bad, shorthing out the PCM, needed a tune up badly, and new tires all around. I may have over paid, but the positives in the car were still almost worth it.

Re: whats a v6 worth

Well the way I see it is you got a pretty good deal because you will not have to spend any cash on repairing a bunch of rust like I will. Personnaly I think you did all right. I am in the South Suburbs of Chicago so I know how hard it is to find a rust free body.
