car takes a while to start when cold...help

I have an 89 firebird with a 2.8L engine

Problem is when the car is cold...it takes a while to start...Engine rotates but does not turn over...have to try like 5 times before it actually starts

After its started...and I turn it off...It starts right away everytime...but if it sits for a while (an hour or so) ...again it takes a while to start

On a hot day (in the 90s or higher) it starts right away as well

What could be causing this? what do I need to check for?
or any idea of how hard of a fix it is?

First do a full tune up to just make sure you have a good baseline...

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/v6/6...or-tuneup.html

Then check to make sure all your vacuum lines are good and not leaking...if none of this works then go onto a lil more indepth stuff

Do a compression test just to see where your at....then do a leak down test on your injectors...this is a common problem with our cars....the stock injectors seem to leak ever so slightly and when the car is cold and has been sitting for a while it floods out the motor a lil bit...worse thing you can do when its not starting is pump the gas so hopefully your not doing that...If all of this looks good then last it could be the computer is not tuned right...that would be my last concern tho...good luck man...let us know

I have already done a full tune up on it...how do you do the leak down test on the injectors? if that was the prob. what would I have to do? change all the injectors?

I was thinking it was like a cold start valve problem or something realted to cold start on the computer

You would have to buy a fuel pressure gauge...you can just screw it into the schrader valve port. Do a search on how to perform a leak down test...im sure there is one...

...if they do leak you mind as well just get a new set...dont buy accell or autozone ones...everyone has good reviews on the ones from fuelinjectorconnection.com...give the guys over there a call or shoot them an email with your car year make model and motor and they will give you some options on what you can do...they make good stuff with a good warrenty...once i do the turbo set up i will be giving them a call also to get some nice injectors for my set up....good luck man...hope it works for you

EDIT: i forgot there is also a cold start up injector...this is really only for COLD starts tho...i mean like here in new york in the winter kind of cold...most peoples cold start injector NEVER gets used

Fires right up when its ran for 5 min or so but starting it up before going to work or coming home from work i gotta crank it 2-3 times before it fires up.
