hi, im putting 3.4 injectors in my 2.8, the new ones look dirtier inside than the old ones, should i soak in injector cleaner - fuel additive stuff ? to clean them up before fitting ?
also all the o rings are in good condition but feel alittle dry, should i soak them in something before refitting?
thanks Ant

Unless you can do some tuning on the calibration I wouldn't use an injector that large.

I believe that the 3.4l injectors are also Multecs. If so I wouldn't use them just for that reason. Get yourself some Bosch injectors, you will be a lot better off in the end.

As for cleaning. I use a 6V AC transformer to cycle them while giving them a bath of mineral spirits (paint thinner) in an ultrasonic cleaner. The ultrasonic is one of the small household ones. Usually 3 injectors fit at a time and I use a small metal can instead of the plastic one.

I use motor oil on the o-rings prior to installation.

Re: injector swap Q's
I tried the 3.4 injectors awhile ago and I didn't like the response- compared to F1ZE's anyway. Felt like I would've had to add alot of 'pump shot' to the accel enrich table to get it to respond like the F1ZE's.

Re: injector swap Q's
RBob, that's good info for the injector cleaning. Where might I nab one of those AC transformers?

As for the 3.4 injectors, your engine WILL be running rich and throwing a code 45, even if they don't leak (which is why I removed them... they are also the same ones used on the 3100). The stock injectors are rated between 14 and 15.5#/hr, and the 3.4 injectors are about 18.4#, IIRC. I posted a link a few months back to a site that had injector reference data. I thought I had the site bookmarked for reference, but I don't.

3.4 are around 17lb.

I installed 17's in my 3.1 and it ran real rich but no codes.

You can use something like this one from Radio Shack:

12.6V CT 3.0A Chassis-Mount Transformer with Leads
Model: 273-1511 | Catalog #: 273-1511

More info on their site. With it having a center tap (CT), wire injectors between one leg and the center tap. That will provide 6.3V to an injector.

Note that both legs can be used. So wire one injector between one leg and the CT, then another injector between the other leg and the CT.

Being a 3A output can easily run 4 injectors (two on each leg in parallel) at a time.

Can also wire injectors in series across the two legs. Need to do this in pairs and the CT won't get used.

Re: injector swap Q's
good info guys thanks, the ecu will adjust somewhat so i shouldnt run too rich, it gives me more scope for tuning in the future, and eventually when a 3.4 finds its way in there anyways :-)
emisions wise, i dont need any of my emisions gubins or a cat to pass my emisions test - UK
thanks again
