starting problems.

hello all,
im having starting problems with my 2.8 Firebird. I have to pump the gas petal about 10 times for it to start right away. If i don't pump the gas petal it takes a long time for it to start. Recently I have replaced the fuel pump, spark plugs, cap and rotor, ignition coil, IACV, and wires. Im thinking that the problem might have to do with the injectors or fuel pressure but not sure. Any suggestion will help a lot. Thnx

Re: starting problems.

Ralph does your firebird have multiport fuel injection or TBI? My 86 was doing very similar things until i replaced all the cracked vacuum lines adjusted the TPS voltage because it was under spec and topped it all off with the repair/mod that made the most difference, i went to the junkyard and pulled a set of injectors off a 2.9 liter ranger and installed those. Now im lucky if the motor turns over twice before it fires and it idles like glass. Just a few things you might want to check out as this is a rather broad subject of the causes of hard starting/idling. On EFI, you should not need to pump the gas. On a side note check your base timing. Factory is 10 degrees before top dead center. I advanced mine 2 more degrees to 12 for a base setting.
