there should be a plug on the side of the transmission. From what i know you fill it from there also, and you fill it until just a little is coming out of the very bottom of that plug. It is also full if you take the plug out and can stick your finger in and feel the trans fluid right inside the fill plug.

If it says don't remove, DON'T REMOVE IT!
There is a reverse gear rod that has a access port on one side of the transmission. It is usually tagged "do not remove". I think it is on the drivers side, not positive though. If you remove this plug the reverse gear will drop into the tranny and require transmission removal to fix. This plug also has a lot of pressure pushing on it, so you will feel that pressure if you try to unscrew it.
The OTHER side of the transmission should be the fluid check/add plug. The actual fluid check/fill plug should unscrew fairly easy will little pressure behind it.

Passenger's side has the fill/check and drain plugs. The one on the driver's side is the pivot bolt for the 5th/reverse shift fork, so don't remove that. The top bolt on the passenger's side is the fill/check plug, and the bottom is the drain.

yea see, i dont have a drain on mine either, wtf
yea i know theres a plug on the passenger side, but dont remember about the driver, and there is no drain plug, but it would suck if that gear fell cuz i realy dont feel like dropping the trans and rebuilding it, its not some thing i love doing lol, even though im good at it, i doo hate it

Re: were to check the trans fluid in a v6 5 speed
The plugs are on the passenger side - this has been consistent from my '84 Camaro to my '89 Firebird. The fill/check plug is the upper one and you check the level just as for the differential - i.e. if you can touch the fluid with your finger, you're fine.
If you need to top the fluid up, pay attention to the owner's manual. Earler transmissions used 90W oil I believe, but later ones use Dextron ATF.
