SES light flicker & backfire

SES light flicker & backfire
Hi all
I changed my plugs, plug leads, distributor cap/rotor and coil the other day. The car is running much smoother and idles well too.
Today I was driving along and the SES light flashed up briefly. Then when I stopped the RPM surged a little. The next time I stopped I heard a backfire flash up through the cat.
There is no rough idle or hesitation infact it's running better than it has ever run... anyone know why this might have happened?
