Call Me Crazy.

But, i actually very much enjoy my v6.
I have thought about swapping it out to a 305 but i got to thinking its a waste of money until this v6 blows up. I know it doesn't have alot of power, but it's still really fun to drive and super easy on the wallet. I use this car as a weekend driver for now, and its just perfect. I don't ever plan on racing, but i do like to go fast (80mph sometimes) but it seems like the v6 can handle it.

Well what do you guys think?
Am i a freak of nature for not wanting a v8?

Believe it or not when I tell people over here (UK) that I have a 3.1 in my Camaro they laugh when I tell them it's the smallest engine! I think the V6 is nippy enough you just have to keep it well tuned and give it encouragement with your right foot... though can't say mine is terribly reliable

Re: Call Me Crazy.

Not everyone wants a 8 second quarter mile... If you are happy with your V6 than that is all that matters!

And you asked for it: YOU'RE CRAZY!

Re: Call Me Crazy.

I think mine is fast enough too, but that doesn't mean i don't want to make it faster lol. I had a friend time me 0-60 the other day and i did it in 17.35 seconds. That was with him and about 150 lbs extra of boyscout equipment and on a slight up hill grade. so i think a major tune up is in order.

Re: Call Me Crazy.

no you're not Crazy.

I feel very much the same. I'm 40 years old, have a family the depends on me, and I just don't have much of a desire to go around doing four things...

1.) spending money that could be used on my kids on a bigger engine
2.) spending money that could go into improving the wow factor on how the car looks on things to make it go faster
3.) going fast enough that it increases the chance of me getting into an accident
4.) going fast enough that I get tickets, which are getting so expensive around here that it would really hurt to pay one off.

I've gone fast in my life. I've driven close to 150 MPH before, so fast that the stripes on the highway blurred into one long stripe. I got it out of my system, and now I'm more interested in looking good, and doing fun little things to the car to improve the experience of driving it around town

Re: Call Me Crazy.

Jack, my son and I spent about 7 months restoring his 87 bird, which has a 2.8 V6. Some of that time was spent hunting down a new block, because we bought the car with a cracked engine block.

I proposed changing over to a V8 since we were pulling the engine, but he insisted on staying with the V6, mostly because his first car was an 86 bird with a V6, and he was satisfied with the power, and pleased with the fuel economy.

If you are happy with your V6, stick with it. When it's time to rebuild the engine, you will find that a V8 is cheaper to rebuild and parts are a lot easier to find. Then you have to make a decision.

I can tell you that the V6s suffer a lot from cracked heads, and finding a replacement block is difficult. Had we known then what we know now, we would have gone with the V8. The biggest problem with the V8 is that you have to swap over your transmission or bellhousing, as well as the wiring harness and other associated parts. This turns it into a much bigger project, and could become costly. The best way to go is to get a donor car with everything in it that you need.
