I hope new injectors do it...

...cause thats all thats left. I put a new map, coil, and iac on today to figure out my rich/bad idle condition. Did'nt do any good. I removed the power for 5 minutes to reset ECM and I could'nt even get that right. The car would idle at 750 and JUMP to 1250 or so and back down to 750 around 4 or 5 times and the car cut off. I ordered injectors to replace the ones I got. Would a bad cam, chain, rockers or stuff cause all this as well? I'm at wit's end right now!

whenever you clear the ECM(remove power from it), you have to do an idle relearn. There is 2 ways to do it, either start the car in the driveway, put it in drive with your foot on the brake until the fan comes on, shut it off, wait about 30 seconds, start it up again(dont forget to put the car back into park). Then do the same thing, start it up until the fan comes on then shut it off and you should be good. The other way is to just drive it in city traffic for about a half hour. The ECM should have relearned the idle procedures by then. Have you checked for vacuum leaks? Spray carb cleaner on all the vacuum lines and see if your engine stalls or slows down, then you found your problem. Is the ECM throwing any codes? I would start there after the vacuum leak check.

Did you disconnect the large hose from the vapor canister and plug it? Try that before you go and spend $200 on new injectors.

Hey Maverick,
Sorry to be a bug. I havent dont this to my camaro yet. The canister your talking about is that the one in the very front on the passanger side? And once the large hose from the vapor canister is unplug...how long do you keep it unplug and is there anything I/we should look for?

Thanks in advance...

I tried plugging the vapor hose and it didn't make any difference plugged or not. That was my first thought thinking it might be getting to rich via that hose. The surge up and down I believe is the injectors are leaking too much gas and the ECM is compensating for it by adjusting the iac in and out. Just too much for the ECM to handle. Can't find a vac leak anywhere after about 2 cans of throttle cleaner.

Yes, the charcoal canister is opposite the battery. Don't unplug the largest hose, the one running to the nipple in the middle of the can, that's the one that goes to the gas tank. You want to plug the one running to the throttle body's large diameter nylon pipe, at the canister end.
