whats wrong with this?
I noticed a very bad idle in my car today, hard to tell how low because both speedo and tach are shot. felt it want to die at a few stops and then having real trouble starting it back up. the weirdest thing tho is taht it doesn't feel like the engine is drawing in enough air. you cant feel the air being sucked in when you put your hand in front of the bare throttle body and there is a high-pitched whining noise when you get it going. can't find anywehere that the lines are old or rotten and its driving me crazy. help please! almost forgot its a 91 rs with a 3.1 lter

Re: whats wrong with this?
Does it want to stall when you put it in gear? And is the throttlebody black? clean around the throttle plate where it sits when closed, carbon deposits can build up there and make a car stall.
Otherwise your best bet is a general tuneup, and if you still have issues then something is wrong. But, bad spark plugs, bad fuel filter, air filter, spark plug wires are all potential culprits and should be considered first, and if they haven't maintained you should do them anyways.

Re: whats wrong with this?
well i'm pretty **** about maintenance so most of that is routinely checked. i cleaned the carbon from the intake and the tps but to no avail. I pulled one spark plug and it was blackened leading me to believe it is/was running rich. I'm going to swap out the plugs nowthat i see they're blackened but would that really lead to my engine not breathing like it should?
