And it moves!

I drove it a whole 50' yesterday. Still needs a good shakedown but so far the brakes seem to work well.

Also, I believe I found the cause of my "Gangster lean".. One of the rear springs wasn't sitting right in the rubber isolator. Right now the car is sitting level.

Re: My 3.5 swap project...

Maybe I missed it, but what spring are you and mars running in your prop valve? Is it one of those Grainger springs?

I am swapping to a Moraine disc setup, too, and I'd like mine to hold strong.

Re: My 3.5 swap project...

1NCR5 I believe, yes.. from Grainger.

Car looks silly w/o the chin spoiler installed (was removed to get it on a tow dolly last year). Once i find the last bracket i'll install it and go for a spin.

Re: My 3.5 swap project...

Rear end works great, and the LCARBs seem to be doing their job as well. Went for a quick spin last night.

It nose dives quite a bit now under hard breaking, that could also be the lack of a front sway bar. I haven't really driven it on the street much since last summer so I can't recall if it did that before.

Now, to get back to re-doing the tune so it runs well without the ITB's.. and hopefully put down some good times at the next track rental.

I might have 1 left although it may have been re-purposed as a throttle return on my son's go kart. I'll have to look tomorrow.

the pack was just under $7 from Grainger, it made a good difference when I had the drums. Took like 5 minutes to change.

Not really sure when i'll make it to the track, been working 6 days lately with only Sunday off. Hopefully that'll be over soon and i'll get out there.

I should be a little under 6K RPM at the 1/4 mile mark in 3rd gear VS about 4800 with the 3.73's, Hopefully that'll help a little. 1st gear is going to be interesting though.

Re: My 3.5 swap project...

Pretty sure it's on the kart, there are a couple stacked up on the throttle return.

I spent the weekend playing with the exhaust, moved the mufflers to the back of the car to gain some ground clearance. I also removed the cutouts since they were pretty pointless. I live on a hill and every time i'd drive up the exhaust drug on the bumps.. lol

My spare tire well was very rotted so part of it was removed to make muffler clearance. Just need to make a sheet metal filler piece to weld in and seal up any other holes in the floor pan.

No tips yet, haven't decided on what to use. Right now it sounds great though.

Re: My 3.5 swap project...

made another 10 or so passes today, first 5 were crap but the rest were all on par with previous runs. Still mid 13's. Same traps as i had with the ITB's.

With that being said, i think i may have to throw in the towel on my 12.99 goal with this setup. It's just not going to happen with a 700R4.

On a good note, I weighed the car on a calibrated scale today and it was 2950 lbs. A little of that is the passenger seat that I left in and a few tools and misc things floating around. I didn't have my skinnies on the front, just the IROC's so there is another 60 lbs extra.

new video from today..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwjAA...ature=youtu.be

I'm hovering around 100 passes on this engine, need to run a compression test and see how it's holding up. I have a feeling that it's probably a little low.

Re: My 3.5 swap project...

w/o me.

So with the skinnies on the front, less 1 seat and the other crap in the car it would be around 2850-2870 race weight.

It hooks better with the LCARB's for sure, I ran the slicks at about 25 PSI and had 0 issues.

Does this mean it's finally time for a manual transmission?

Re: My 3.5 swap project...

th350 or manual
i wouldnt go any other way with it

auto is prolly going to be faster when properly setup
and a manual well its just more fun to drive , manual is also going to break more parts in the driveline , dont recall if u still have a 10 bolt in the car or not

I feel that a th350 would be nice too for ya as well as me. But I will say after a ride in phonixfirebirds recent 385 build where he put the th350 in it..... its not something I would want for a street car. I road around with him this weekend and the 350 trans is a crispy nice one to have for a strip car indeed. But I could just see me going 80 on the t-pike at 4k rpms...lol spooling the whole way j/k

Been there, done that. Not only is it bad on the gas its ROUGH on the motor. The sustained RPM really adds wear/tear faster than lower engine speeds with a OD trans.

My LT1 had 57k when I put it in, and I put about 17k on it, mostly highway miles riding around with a 4L60E that wouldn't shift into 4th gear or apply TC Lockup.

After that 17k miles there was piston slap to be heard like mad. Looked like the engine had seen a ton more than than the mileage I put on it.

3,500 ish with 3;73's

and how often are u cruising at 80mph most of the time is what 45/55?

Probably not going to put any more money into it at this point, the 700R4 is great for street use and shifts perfect.

Yep, Fiberglass Harwood hood and a 10 bolt with a girdle/better axles. also have a tubular K member but that's pretty close to the same weight as the stock K member.

A T56 would be ideal but the reality is that it's about time for a new project car. I've been saving up for a while to buy a 68-72 Nova, hoping by summer 2014 i'll be able to buy a nice one outright. The Camaro will have to go for sure when that happens.

Interior is going back in, probably some quieter mufflers, power steering, front sway bar and finally.... a friggin radio!

so without overdrive/lockup converter u would be right around 3,200 @ 75 lil lower since the converter wont slip so bad

hell i drive mine around with 4:10's and i cruise higher then that in overdrive

Here is a video from the track, racing a 2.2 Shelby (from his car).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWJiA...ature=youtu.be

those turbo mopars are quick!, that one is bone stock.

Here is a cell video, hadn't planned on posting it but why not...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTWau...ature=youtu.be

as the video states car is doing around 65 MPH, 2500 RPM in 4th with the TCC unlocked. Cruses just fine there but just a bump to about half throttle and the stall flashes to 4K+. going WOT is downright fun on the highway.

It depends on what all goes with the car. Most likely it would be a roller with an extra set of wheels, new Hooker supercomp catback kit and a hatch full of 3rd gen stuff. Probably somewhere between 2500 and 3K with the extras.. It does have some rust but nothing that couldn't be fixed. Car has like 77 or 78K on the body.

I'd probably part out my engine to make the most off of it unless i got a really nice offer for the whole thing.

Trans would go up for sale on here, i'm sure a V6 guy would love to have it. low mile '93 700R4 with a Probuilt Street/Strip kit, Vette servo and probably the converter since it might flash too high behind a V8. Plus extra parts (have a new band for it and some other stuff)

Could just go with a 4-speed manual. They seem to be decently cheap and should take the beating.

Re: My 3.5 swap project...

I have to admit i'm a little sad to say this, but this project has some to an abrupt end. I had a chance this weekend to buy one of my dream cars and I couldn't resist. Of course there were conditions from the wife, one of them being that my Camaro has to go.

With that being said, my plan is to pull the engine/trans and all my added electronics, then sell the car as a roller. I don't think i can sell it complete and get what it's worth.

I won't have any use for the trans so if one of you guys is close enough and wants it, i'll give you a good deal. the 4K stall is also up for grabs.

The engine will be last to go, hoping i can get an offer for it complete, otherwise i'll part it out.

The ITB's will be up for sale shortly, i just need to mount them to something and get some pictures. I also have lots of other random parts.

If you are seriously interested in any of it, PM me and maybe we can work something out. I have to pay back the money I borrowed by the end of summer and the sooner the better.

Here is my new project...

'72 Nova, healthy 355, TH350 with a kit, 2500 stall, ford 9" with 4.11's

Swap the 3.5 into the Nova, with some positive intake pressure.

Re: My 3.5 swap project...

lol.. No v6's in this car. If the 355 ever comes out it'll get a LS/T56.

It runs in full trim on street tires what my Camaro did on fat slicks with tons of suspension upgrades and stripped to a shell.

I'm also going to have to go with this suggestion. Would love to see this.

In that case, lets hope the 355 never comes out so that you don't put any LS junk in there.

Re: My 3.5 swap project...

Yep, converter is for a 700R4. Has lockup and was built to stall at 4K behind my engine. I've got about 200-250 miles on it since it was re-stalled last year. Probably 20 or so passes.

I'm hoping to take the car out and have some fun before i start taking it apart. I need to find a "Closed road" or a big parking lot to get some videos in.

who built the converter and how much does a restall cost?
4k might be a tad high for fast , but if the restall fee isnt bad he could have it tightened up

and honestly even at 4k it still better then the autozone converter hes using now lol

chances are u would go faster with a stock converter versus the 118$ unit u have now

some of the logs ive looked at show it only dropping 3-500 rpms on the shift so ur converter is deffinatly slipping pretty bad when ur under full boost

Re: My 3.5 swap project...

That was on the old tranny mainly, that had the rpms drop issue. The new one drops nicely since I added the shift kit servo and boost valves. I could even see the rpms slipping in 3rd on old logs with the old tranny. Now its constant positive rpms. But I know the converter is crap. All it is, is a restalled stock converter.

ahh ok i havent looked at any of the newer logs iirc

lol u should take a ride in my car , it leaves the line at 4k flashes to 4650 hangs there for a second and then revs up , rpms never go below 4,600 even on the shift , but on the street it behaves like a stock unit for the most part

Re: My 3.5 swap project...

That's cool. I really want a higher stall though. Sure would help the boost threshold out a bit. But hopefully the 2 step can get it done a week from Friday.

Re: My 3.5 swap project...

Just to make Six happy I did take a tape measure and a calibrated eye to the Nova engine bay... Pretty sure my 3500 would drop right in and not have any clearance problems.

I think the re-stall was about 150, i paid $350 for the converter from Revmax.

Still waiting on my buddy to return my cherry picker and engine stand, after that i'll be out of excuses not to work on getting the car apart.
