Fuel Injectors

What do different lbs/hour do in relation to the v6? If I am replacing the stock injectors do I want to use the same lbs/hour?

Re: Fuel Injectors

15.4#/hr rating OR 14.7#/hr, the 2.8 uses both, it switched to 15.4 in 87, though its a small enough difference even if you have an 85 or 85 you might get away with it without tuning, higher lb/hr may or may not help, If it's a more efficient injector I'm sure it would, I'm contemplating putting my multec II 22.5#s in, but would have to get an ECM swap and engine running first

Re: Fuel Injectors

Well I was looking at getting some BOSCH injectors. They say OEM replacement with stock flow for 3.1 GM engines.
If I get injectors with higher flow would I need to tune the ECM or is it just a plug in and fire up type of thing.

Re: Fuel Injectors

You'll have to wait for someone that knows more about it than I do, I know once you reach a point you will have to tune to compensate, but I THINK that you can get away with that small of a difference without a tune, hopefully Maverick or someone will chime in here soon.

Re: Fuel Injectors

Someone on here recently bought a set of the Bosch injectors and they weren't the right size. You NEED to make sure that you're getting the fuel injectors that are compatible with either a 2.8 or an 88-94 3.1 ONLY, not a 93-99 or whatever year they switched to the Multitec II injectors. If you call or email and they say that the injectors are for a 3100, you don't want them, as they WILL throw a code (18.4 pph as oposed to 15.4 tops).

Nothing by itself. A larger injector is a neccecity to support more power, not to create it. Putting in larger injectors without changing things in the ecm may make it run significantly worse. Your wot fueling will be too rich because the ecm uses set tables to calcualte wot fuel- there's no correction at wot. But injectors with a different spray pattern can enhance throttle response.

Re: Fuel Injectors

I had a post up not too long ago about this issue. 3.1 liters correct size is 15lbs/hr. I was told the ECM would need significant modding to handle anything bigger. Not an area that seems like it should be messed with. (unless you have a lot of time/money/electronics smarts) I have none of these...

Re: Fuel Injectors

The only time you need to upgrade lb rating on injectors is when you create more power via airflow. So if you swap a cam, or heads, then you need more fuel.

Pullys, throttle bodys.. the ecm will compensate.

Headers will actually make you run a tad richer.

I installed 17lb injectors on a 3.1 that had alot of bolton mods. It ran, and drank gas, stock injectors was better.

I installed 19lb on a 3.4 with a cam. It compensated, but really needed a tune to get everything.

Re: Fuel Injectors

Got my injectors ordered and delivered from south bay. Don't remember who I talked to on the phone but he was super helpful.

Thanks for the help to everyone else. One more car component I somewhat understand now. Now to find my antifreeze leak and get the car back on the road. Ill update on how the nice new ford injectors work.
