Re: out w/2.8 in w/3.1
yes the motor will bolt right in.
u dont need the harness or ecm, just reuse the intake and throttle body off ur 2.8 and the egr valve of ur 2.8

1. You don't have a tpi, that would be a v8 most v6s are mpfi
2. He did answer your question, it's not really as simple as just yes it works or no it doesn't, take a pic of your pile and we will show u what u need to put on the 3.1
3. Someone correct me but if he uses the 2.8 ECM/harness the 3.1 doesn't have a fan switch in the head it's controlled by the ECM

Re: out w/2.8 in w/3.1
Yes, you can put it in, the two engines are almost identical.
You most definitely do have a throttle body, every fuel injection car does, TPI, stands for tuned port injection and is the label given to a specific fuel injection setup on the v8 cars, generally it refers to the intake manifold setup they used.
I'm guessing the reason project89 is saying to reuse your old intake and throttle body is because the EGR on the 3.1 is probably electric while it's vacuum operated on the 2.8, and the throttle body I believe has a different setup for the IAC vacuum line.

i here that the fan switch is one of the biggest pains, anyone who is swapping in the 3.4 block to an older setup has to do that. i got lucky and didnt have to as i have a 92

Re: out w/2.8 in w/3.1
OK the pic thing isn't working.I down loaded it from cell to hot mail but cant get it from hot mail to here.I know what the tb looks like and fuel rail and intake probly got egr figured. If all these parts are good i'm set. This guy that is selling me the motor is giving me his computer and everything. I don't know if my fan motor works yet.I'm going to have to replace the radiator anyhow.Could just change that. But the insturment panel would become the next problem wouldn't it?I guess trying the stuff you said off the old motor would be the smartest way to go.worst thing I would probly have to do is buy the egr or injectors or somthing like that.

Re: out w/2.8 in w/3.1
Here's the lowdown of what needs to be swapped over from the 2.8:
Upper plenum with throttle body and the black intake tube running from the intake manifold to the throttle body.
Fuel rail and cold start injector (plug needs to be knocked out of the back of the 3.1 intake manifold for the CSI).
Pass side exhaust manifold if car doesn't currently have AIR injection as the 3.1 will have it and that fitting in the manifold for the check valve is a real pain sometimes as it seems to like to come loose, and the EGR valve and transfer tube.
The ignition coil bracket and the EGR solenoid and sensor.
The oil filter adaptor AND the oil pressure units UNLESS you want to keep the 3.1's oil pressure sender/switch and rewire your stock system.
You DO NOT need the fan switch. My stock 2.8 ECM runs the fan just fine (but not at the temp it's supposed to, for some reason) without the fan switch.
There is also the issue of the flexplate and flywheel on the 3.1. If you have a standard and the 3.l has an auto, you will need to find a flywheel from an 88+ car, as the 2.8 is externally balanced and the 3.1 will shake itself apart if you reuse your factory wheel. Same goes for manual engine to auto car.
You do NOT need the knock sensor that is mounted just above the starter on the pass side of the engine. You can either just leave it in place or swap over the coolant plug from your 2.8. Keep your existing starter, but you may need to buy a shim kit to get it aligned properly. Replace the water pump while the engine is out or you will end up doing it soon anyways, as you have no idea how long it's been dry and the seals are probably close to being dry rotted and the bearings could be crap. I'd also do the timing chain, front and rear main oil seals and cam cover gaskets (front and rear), and the oil pan gasket while the engine is out of the car.
