Re: 2.8 firebird problems

Sounds like a clogged cat converter to me, if not that, then try a tuneup, new spark plugs, wires if needed, check for vacuum leaks, replace fuel and air filter, oil change, and seafoam the engine.
Check cat converter first, and if you haven't kept up on maintenance try the tuneup, or you can do both...really should keep up on maintenance running poorly or not.

Re: 2.8 firebird problems

Code 54 is either a bad fuel pump relay or ECM. Code 22 means that the TPS needs to be replaced and could be the cause of your problems. If you go to the right yard, you can get a pack of TPS, IAC, and CTS or more sensors for cheap. I got one for $10.

EEHH...code 54? Just replace the ECM. Thats what I had to do with mine. And for sure, replace the TPS. My car sat for a good number of years as well and I am now excising the same demons.

Re: 2.8 firebird problems

Swap it for one of the ones next to it. That's the easiest way. They're all the same, pretty much. But, if you already have a code 54, more than likely, the ECM is the culprit, and if it has a code 54 now, it could eventually die altogether and leave you stranded.
