Gas Milage HELP!!!

Okai so, I have had my 87 2.8 Camaro for what's probably about a month now. I have started paying attention to my gas consumption and I have managed to get about 300-350 miles with $120 in the tank($50 to fill). This averages out to about 10 mpg:| What is wrong with my car!?!?!?

When I start the car, I smell fuel…*am i not burning gas? am i leaking gas?

I'm 18 and this is killing my wallet.

Re: Gas Milage HELP!!!

Check the plugs. If they're black, you're burning too much fuel. If not, you're leaking it. Oh, and based on your other thread, try shifting at a speed somewhere under 3000 RPM. The gas savings will amaze you. You don't need to get the 2.8 to redline before you shift (if you MUST shift high in the powerband for some reason, the power quits at about 4200 RPM).

Also, do a tune up. Plugs, wires, filters (oil, fuel, air), change the trans, engine, coolant, and rearend fluids, check the power steering fluid, change the PCV valve.

Well your two threads didn't make any sense, in one you want to know how high you can rev it, in this one your bitch about bad mileage.

redlining won't help mileage any, get it into 5th ASAP only go to 4th if its luggin but I can cruise in 5th at 30-35 if Im light on the gas.

I usually take 1st n 2nd to near 3000 then quickly get into 5th n cruise.

Redline question is for knowledge. That is why I'm here. If there's a problem with that, then ignore my posts. Don't really see why this is a problem?

No problem, they just contradict each other, hence the lack of replies in either.
Just be glad I said anything, no one else is.

I'm asking about gas milage because I have a LEAK!
Not because I want to drive in a more 'fuel efficient' manner.
Thanks for replying but you clearly misunderstood my question…

The redline was to find out what the motor can handle.
The Gas Milage HELP!!! was regarding a leak. Not how to get better fuel economy.
