ok, so my car overheated real bad the other day due to a hole in my radiator hose that I didn't know about and that created the worse rod knock I've ever heard...

I want to pull the engine out and just replace it but idk what I should do. I've heard I can swap for a 3.4 and reuse most of the 2.8 stuff, but how will that effect the ECM (or how will the ECM effect it)?

should I just get a 2.8 for a junk yard? or is it fairly easy to swap for a 3.4.

any and all advice is helpfull... but I'm not skilled enough yet to throw a v8 under my hood unfortunately... not to mention I'm on a bit of a budget..

other notes- eveything is pretty much stock original 2.8

Re: Need advice with engine swap
Moved this from the "regular" engine swap forum in the hopes you'll get better answers sooner.

Re: Need advice with engine swap
Read the 3.4 swap boogie in the tech articles and do a search for 3.4 swap. It's a pretty easy swap, not any harder than putting another 2.8 in. Read those articles over and over and you'll be just fine

Re: Need advice with engine swap
What he said, and with that swap you retain your stock ECM, and just leave the wiring harness intact, drop the 3.4 longblock in, and then bolt some stuff from the 2.8 onto it, its basically exactly what you would do if you just went and got a new 2.8 shortblock.
