2 new manifold prototypes im working on
right now im just in the research and design stage but this is a project i have wanted to do for a while now so i figured id post them up and get some feed back
originally i was only going to do an itb intake but then i relized this intake design could be converted to a conventional design as well by removing the throttle blades and not boring the the throttle shaft holes and bolting a plenum down to the top that utilizes an tpi or lsx throttle body
as for now i think im going to build this itb setup with 30mm butterflys though i need to do more calculations to come up with the final size the injectors will be mounted at the base of the itb block which will bolt down to a stock lower intake, this will require custom fuel rails
as far as hieght im going to aim for a 6 inch to 7.5 inch hieght on the itb style intake, and im not yet sure on the hieght for the plenum style manifold as i need to dbl check hood clearance and see what i can get for plenum volume ontop of that without clearance issues
heres a pic of what it would look like looking down from the top the blue dots would be the bolts to blt it to the base and also some of tem would be for bolting a plenum down ontop of it on the other design.
i have some cad drawings and some 3d drawings that ill post up as soon as i put some finishing touches on them
if u guys have any design suggestions or ?'s or anything just post up im trying to shoot for the end of the month to get one machined up and on a car for testing

I'll do it, I'll just have to pick up a gasket set and if you pick me, could I have a picture of it so I know what Im up against

Re: 2 new manifold prototypes im working on
bascally its gong to look lkke this

not pictured are how the injectors and furl rails will sit
im going to use a tpi throttle body and tpi throttle cable bracket
so u may have to get urself a tpi throttle cable
tv cable for the autop trans should be the same but m not 100% sure on that
it will be some time as i just ordered the materials to start fab work on it should be here by this comming weekend and take me a few days to start putting it together
essentially this will bolt down inplace of the mid and upper stock manifold, and will require removal of the stock fuel lines and the stock injector holes filled either by welding them shut or epoxyin them closed and removal of the fuel rail , if i supply a base manifold to whoever ill prolly just epoxy the holes shut for testng
killert would u be able to dyno the car if i send one out to you before and after its installed ?

Re: 2 new manifold prototypes im working on
I'd have to look a bit I think I could be able to get it dynoed, I'll just save my money up, also I could probably get a lower manifold and weld up the holes for the injectors. If you get it so it will bolt up 100% and everything figured out like that. I'll certainly be the test pig. Just tell me what I'd need to get and would I be able to keep it or atleast get it at a discount

?the idea is to have a stright as possible runner , this design will put one bend into the whole intake tract compared to the stock design which has that nast nasty bend in the top of it

I take it that these are designed to bolt to a later model FWD lower intake?

Re: 2 new manifold prototypes im working on
Not sure if you plan to make both styles or not, but if you need a test mule for the itb setup I'll volunteer, I'm assuming stock hood clearance would be an issue and that it would require some ECM tuning to run smoothly as well? (just dropped in a 3.4 btw)

yeah the itb design will be done second and is more then likley going to require some tunning

Do you think the TPI throttle body intake should fit under the stock hood? If not how much do you think it will stick up?

Re: 2 new manifold prototypes im working on
hey i like seeing fresh designs good work
however the lower part will not line up with the lim as the runners are almost in line on the lim, your pics do not show this.
also, a slight curve in the runners will help the air get round the corner at the lim as you have now created a new corner restriction at the lim junction with this design......

Re: 2 new manifold prototypes im working on
I've been looking at tbird M90s lately...a lot, they can be had for $100-250, are easy to find, and really wouldn't require much work to install, been thinking...it would be awfully easy to make up an intake those could bolt too for someone with fabrication skills....I've thought about even just cutting a hole in the UIM, problem is even most aftermarket hoods would not have enough clearance for that I think, though suppose you could always go old school and cut a hole in the hood now that I think about it.....
Anyway, might be a good idea for another intake design.

an almost completed intake just went out for flow testing, baically its the intake without the plenum welded on, when it gets back im going to put on the plenum and tpi tb and send it back out to be reflowed

If your still needing some one to test your intake ideas let me know, I can try it lol. I'm gonna try a remotely mounted M90 and see what happens, A/C gotta come out. I wanna see how these designs work, look pretty sweet. Will they fit under a stock hood?

Re: 2 new manifold prototypes im working on
yes i changed the design a lil bitthe intakes come with interchangeable runners, i have 3 diff lenght runners that basically bolt in to the manifold
even the longest runners clear a stock hood

even the longest runners clear a stock hood

im still some time away from being ready to test on an actual car but ill let u guys know when im ready. unless my own project is ready at the time ill prolly test on my own, and then send one ot for somone else to test so im not the only one with gain numbers to show

How about stuff for vacuum lines? My intake is bone stock and it hates not having vacuum lines together lol.

17xxcfm as a whole unit
i tried 6 different trasitions fro the round runner to the rectangle port the best flowing runner was 292 cfm and the worst flowing runner was 247cfm

Re: 2 new manifold prototypes im working on
i think the stock numbers are in the 170 range iirc
just on my cell phone but i dont get service ere i am ,lol nearest place i get service is about 60 miles away but next time im out that way ill snd the pics to my email so i can post them
im thinking i can improve those numbers about another 50 cfm with a lil more time spent on the transition from round to rectangle , but chances are i wont even mess with it as it already flows way more then would ever be needed

Re: 2 new manifold prototypes im working on
I thought they were in the 145-155 range. I heard of a ported stock plenum getting close to 170 but still in the 160's. If thats true then this manifold would be a huge improvement over the stock one, and even a ported stock one.

Re: 2 new manifold prototypes im working on
another 2-3 weeks and this manifold will by on an engine dyno for back to back pulls vs a stock intake im going to use the tpi throttle body on this new intake to keep it a very simple bolt on deal, not to mention upgraded tpi tb's are cheap

Re: 2 new manifold prototypes im working on
im not sure yet with the amount of pm's i have goten about them i will never be able to keep up with the orders, so i have been contacting some places to see if i cant farm out the machining work to make this easier to do and get the costs down
im giong to shoot for 350/400 for manifold alone, and 575/625 as a bolt on kit intake/fuel rails, fuel line/ return and afpr
depending on some prices i get back they may be cheaper

sorry guys i just moved back to iowa and dont have internet ill post a new thread in a few mins with results
Re: 2 new manifold prototypes im working on
Subscribing... too bad redraif is not around. Put your intake on that car and you could have had ported stocker vs. truleo vs. yours... all on the same car back to back to back.
That would make for an interesting comparison...
Can't wait for dyno results... I still gotta pin down an intake for mine... unless I go hybrid... Any plans to make a hybrid version?
