MAF to MAP conversion

Hi all, I've got faulty MAF sensor in my 2.8 Firebird, I'm from Poland and it's very hard to get good one here and I started to thing about converting it to MAP from 3.1. What do you thing about it? Did any one tryed it before? Is it possible at all?

Re: MAF to MAP conversion

I believe if you got the map unit and ECM from a 3.1 MAP car its doable, bit of work though, honestly would probably be easier to get a MAF shipped from the US though, just don't see the MAP being any easier to find, unless it was used on a more common car over there, otherwise it would actually probably be harder to find because only the newer F body v6s use map.

it is way easier to find working Map here, I already got one, it's way less faulty than MAF, probably it's becouse LPG fuel and it's tendency to blow MAF sensor.

Re: MAF to MAP conversion

There's alot of government vehicles on propane. I bet you could find one in a salvage yard on a cavalier or a light truck. You need to do a little research, but you could concieveably adapt whatever setup you find to work on your motor and provide enough fuel. It's really not a terribly complicated system.

Re: MAF to MAP conversion

You could get the 7730 ECM out of a Corsica,Cavalier, Beretta, or 90 and later F-bodies along with the harness from the donor car. And it is doable, do a search on here, there is a write-up about how to make the swap. Or just do what some of us here did. Grab a Ford MAF off a 90 or later T-bird and connect up the power, splice the two ground wires together with the original MAF ground and the signal wire and youre in business and will probably not need another MAF again. You will need to swap to the '165 ECM and have a chip burned. Check this thread for information on how to do it...

Just follow Bl85's steps and you will be fine.
