OEM or High-performance Fuel pump

Hey all,

Quick question, I have a stock 85 Firebird with a 2.8 ltr automatic.

I think I may have to replace the fuel pump again but am curious as to whether or not I should use a OEM replacement pump like I did 5 years ago or would I be able to install a high-performance pump without any doing any upgrades to the engine?

Any input would really be helpful.

Re: OEM or High-performance Fuel pump

The fuel pressure regulator will control the pressure so using either should be fine. Go ahead and throw a Walbro in there.

As a side note though, unless you do some modifications you really don't need an aftermarket unit, though thye might be more reliable

Re: OEM or High-performance Fuel pump

Thanks for the input, the biggest reason is because I replaced the fuel pump about 5 years ago with an OEM and only drove the car maybe 2000 miles since then.

I was also thinking a higher performance pump would possibly be more reliable and last longer, plus if I decide to upgrade the engine at a later point I would not have to do a fuel pump changeover then.

My biggest question at this point is should I install a 255 ltr Walbro or a 255 ltr HPF pump. I have heard several cons against Walbro but have seen nothing that actually compares the two units.

Any comments?
