heater core, how to get to the top screw?

heater core, how to get to the top screw?

Working on a 1992 Camaro v6, cannot get at the top screw on the heater box cover.

Tryed moving the DREM but can't reach down far enough.

Can't get down through the speaker hole, the air vent duct blocks.

Tried droping the ECM but can't get in there either.

I'm told on a bird there's enough room to reach but the Camaro doesn't have enough space.

Factory manual says pull dash... Any other ideas??

First thing I had to change on my Camaro lol. Pull the dash is correct, but a little misleading. You just have to pull it out a couple of inches, not actually remove it. When you do that you'll have enough space.

On my 91 V8 car I tried hard to not pull the dash but ended up having to remove a lot of the bolts and pull it a couple inches on the passengers side and slid my hand through the speak hole and into the small crack it made pulling it out some.

You will be scraping the **** out of the back of your hand and wrist if you do it this way it will heal though and time will be saved. With the dash pulled out slightly on the pass side you can force your hand down in there and actually feel the bolt. If my Sasquatch hand and arms fit in there most people should be able to do this.

It seems impossible until you feel that socket lock on then you will hold it there for dear life until the bolt is out.

I did not put that bolt back in I'm sure there is a lot of us who didn't.

Yeah I'm to that point, I can put my fingers on the bolt from the top.

I'd like to meet the guys who came up with the idea for having to take out half the dash to remove ONE screw.

I hear ya I would like to have a sit down talk with them too.

If you can touch the bolt you can get a 1/4inch drive ratchet down in there and get it out. As soon as I could touch it that's when I got it out. Just had to work the tool down into the hole and fish around until the locked onto the socket. Definitely a job to test your patients.

1/4" Drive Ratchet and deep socket, remove speaker, right hand insert ratchet into place, left hand down speaker hole get ratchet handle, right hand stablize ratchet and hold socket. Very slow going but this is how I got it out and in just yesterday. Have fun and plan on taking a few mental brakes or you could loosen/ remove the dash.

Those guys charge by the hour

I also remember undoing the dash from the passenger side and pulling it back a bit, and I definitely remember getting all scraped up.
