2.8 Camaro Trouble

Hey Ive got a 1988 2.8L v6 camaro.
This morning I go to start it up and it refuses. It just cranks and cranks but wont start. Im 16 and my dad and I tried putting a screw driver in the spark plug thing to get a spark but was unsuccesfull.
Ive got a chilton shop manual for 82-92 camaros but it isnt being much help.
If you have any suggestions or tips for me PLEASE let me know!
Thanks - Noah

I would think about replacing the distributor cap and rotor as a start.

Re: 2.8 Camaro Trouble

A more likely suspect is the ignition coil, should also pull the ICM and have an autozone check it out for you.

Re: 2.8 Camaro Trouble

My buddy has a 87 camaro 2.8. When he first got the car it ran strong. The car sat for a month and it was not running well at all. I put new plugs, wires, cap, rotor and coil and the car fired right up and ran great until the timimg chain broke. once we got the car back togther it was very hard to start and not it will start and run for 5 seconds at the most. Any ideas would be helpful. Car has 46,000 mile on it.

He said its not getting spark, so spraying quick start spray wont help. I am curious though.... what is the "spark plug thing"? A little more detail on that might help to diagnose this. Are you talking the plug itself, plug wire....?

i think hes talking about the spark plug wire. when my car was doing this, we checked the spark with a screw driver in the plug wire, and got no spark. so we changed the distributor cap and rotor and it started right up.
hope this helps

Another thing to look at is the Ignition Module. It goes under the dizzy.
