question time

this winter the engine and tranny are getting pulled and the engine bay is going to be cleaned up treated and coated so i've been looking around online at parts and everything so i can get it all done at once but here's my main set of questions

i'm thinking about the tubular k-members Spohn offers them for the 3.8L v6 and V8's

but they said i could install my own motor mounts and it should work with out any problems

so what if any real benefits would this give us v6's and what ad on's should i look into and or avoid all together

Re: question time

First off, the 3.8L V6 is a 90-degree engine, whereas the V6 that came in your car, stock, is a 60-degree engine. Are you wanting to swap to the 90-degree 3.8/4.3L V6? If so, I'd recommend this:

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/engi...-4-3-swap.html

Even with that tubular K-member from Spohn, you'll still have to rig up the mount adapters in a way similar to that described in that thread.

If you're just wanting to make the stock V6 that is in you car faster, I'd recommend this:

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/v6/5...ost-power.html

Hope those help!

Re: question time

ok well to be honest i'm planing on keeping my 3.1

engine is going to be rebuild with full P&P the works the shop i've spoken with is promising me 60hp over stock with a three year warranty along with that i'm hoping for one of projects89's new intakes but while the engine is out of the car I'm cleaning out the bay batt going to the rear new smaller reservoir btl's and i'm going to hide and tuck everything as much as possible to make plenty of room for the turbo up front i'm also going to be lowing the car at some point and am even thinking about an air-ride setup at some point

(this is going to be taking place in stages over the next 2-4 years unless i hit the mega)

I was just thinking and asking about the k member as added weight savings and or performance upgrade over our stock setup and yes i know it would require custom mounts

Re: question time

I don't see why it wouldn't work either; as long as there's enough metal on the k-member (e.g. they didn't weld any bosses to it) in the area to bolt up the 2.8/3.1 motor mounts. And even if there wasn't enough metal, you coudl probably weld some in there- or like you said, make custom motor mounts. Do they have a picture of it up on their website?

Re: question time

before u spend any money on having the heads done, heres a few ?'s to ask the shop doing the heads, #1 do they have experiance with the 60* iron heads ( and not just rebuilding porting experiance)#2 can they flow the heads when they are done

and how much are they charging you

the truth is most places will do a casting cleanup and mild blending in the bowl area and thats it,porting the iron heads is a different aproach compared to the common small block head due to the vane and upper valve guide. most places will treat the heads as a typical small block chevy head, while it will gain flow it wont be anywere near what can be goten out of them

Re: question time

The general consensus I've gotten from people who've tried out the Spohn Tubular K-Member is that it's not worth the MILD weight-savings it gives you. I think it only saves 2-4LBS. I'm sure Purple82TA or someone else could chime in on that...

Oh, and speaking as recent customer of project89, I'd definitely make sure the shop that's doing the P&P job on your heads is at least half as knowledgeable as he is. Yes, I am a SATISFIED customer.
